He was fouled on the half court heave at the end of regulation.  I know you never can call that but he was fouled.

Yeah, they raked DJ's arm, but a powder blue posse carrying torchlights would've chased after that official following the game if it gets called. I liked that they let everyone play on that exchange. I thought they were going to call Offutt on a foul just because that' s Harrison Barnes he was guarding.

Hate to disappoint you Bhugh24 but I'm not retarded and I'm sure I've played more basketball than most people you know. Not pinning loss on anybody, just want my PG to play a smart game. And if you're not blaming anyone why bring up Walts missed free throw. DJ is a good player, but when you're playing the number one seed and have a chance to win you have to value every possession. I'm old school and that's the way I was taught. I don't agree with everything people say on this site, but I don't  say they're retarded or they're an idiot.

Ok, obviously DJ got us here. Everybody knows that. And yea he had an off night. The whole team had an off night. Until Offutt turned it on. Our top shooters (cooper, offutt, and kellogg) had 50 of our 65 points. And I think Offutt, having a tremendous game, kind of makes Coopers game look WAY worse than it did. I completely agree with Bhugh24. DJ created plays like he always does. And Keely and Smith didn't finish on like 4 of them. So DJ is 4 mishaps (that weren't his fault) away from a double-double. DJ is a great player because when he has a good game, the whole team has a good game because he makes his team better. Yea he chucked up a couple 25 footers tonight. Thats part of his game. My dad was yelling at him for shooting those tonight and I told him, "thats DJ". I wasn't surprised at all. He's done it all year, and he makes them 31% of the time. Why get on him now, our last game of the season, when his play got us here. No blame on him. The blame, and really the credit, is given to the rebounders. UNC out rebounded us by 30 and Zeller had 22 rebounds. We managed 26 rebounds on the the night. Were not gonna win games if we give a #1 seed 17 second chances. It's not gonna happen. And honestly, I am surprised it was that close. We couldn't shoot it in over time or the first half. What kept us in the game was the turnovers and our will to fight back. We never gave up. We sparked a fire in the second half. But rebounding would ultimately be our demise.

Bobcats played a HISTORIC season. Groce and company have put the Ohio University Bobcats on the NCAA Basketball map. And not only are we on the map, but we are a relevant team now. Green and White above the rest!

DJ's shooting night puts him in company with Bo Kimble. It happens.

People now know who he is.  He is one of the greatest player's in OU's history, and his play on the biggest stage will forever earn him a place in not only team lore, but national as well.  We all remember guys like Bryce Drew, God Shammgod, etc.  Cooper is another one of those "small school" heroes, and with continued work and overall improvement, will be one of the best PG's in the country next year.

Here's a question:

If Cooper's shot to end regulation had gone in, what would you have done?

I'm trying to figure out just what would've happened. I'm kind of afraid of that answer. I think running down the middle of the street would've been in order.

There's one statement in this thread that makes me very, very, very angry:  the concept that officials consciously call fouls differently late in a game and that that's OK.  A foul on a potentially game wining shot is no different -- and should be called no different -- from the first shot of the game.  To approve any other behavior on the part of officials is to make a complete mockery of the game that we all love so much.  For the record, I don't know whether or not DJ was fouled on that last shot.  If he was, it should have been called.  Talk of power-blue mobs is just totally outrageous.  Call the game as it happens and let the chips fall where they may.

Fully agree.  I also believe they did not call the hand on eyeball/ head shot to Coop on Zeller because it was the end of the game.  It is just wrong to back off legit calls at the end of a game.

There was no foul on DJ on the half court shot. Someone else earlier posted he was fouled. You can see the Carolina guy trying to avoid any contact.

If you throw up a 35-foot shot with 12 minutes left in the game as the shot clock expires and someone touches your arm, it won't get called then, either.

You're not going to get a foul call on a halfcourt shot unless someone decks you with a forearm shiver.

And rightly so.

I was at the game, sat next to borna, who knows more hoop and sees a ton more about what's going on in a game than I ever will.  He commented, and I agree, that the p.g. for NC (White) is quick and fundamentally solid.  DJ had a tough game because NC keyed on him.  Given how we rely on DJ to make plays, isn't so much of what he does much magnified?  Late, you could sense how hard he was trying and how much we needed someone to make a hoop at those late game critical moments--Hence some of his challenging shots at the end.  But to lay any blame on those would be to ignore the rest of the game and this season.

Again, I have no idea if DJ was fouled on that play.   I didn't see a foul from the angle of the TV camera.  I'm not arguing that he got fouled, I'm only saying that that play and every other play should be called exactly same at the beginning, the middle and the end of the game.  If it's a foul in the first two minutes, it should be a foul in the last 10 seconds.  If not, the whole game is a total mockery and we are letting officials decide the outcome and not the play on the court.  The play on the court includes consistent calling of fouls.  If an official is afraid to call a foul in the last 30 seconds of a game he should be canned.  I've seen games won with almost no time on the clock at the foul line because an official legitimately called a foul on an attempted game winning shot.  That's good officiating (if truly a foul occurred) not bad officiating.  That's all I'm saying.  That shouldn't be controversial, I don't think.
