Robert Morris was part of the MTE that involved Kentucky and Mt. St. Mary's. No return game necessary. I assume Cleveland State and Marshall were returns for the Covid year and those series are done unless the deals were for more than two years. I'm curious whether we will get a return game ever from St. Bonaventure connected to the 19/20 season opener. I don't think either of our programs are in a position for Bonnies to buy a game with Ohio.

I would love a rotating home and home with Belmont, CSU, Bonnies and Marshall indefinitely. Nice way to fill out OOC schedule IMO

I don't know why the mids haven't figured out that this is probably the best course of action going forward. It's pretty clear the majors don't wanna play you if you have a decent team good enough to pull an upset, so just schedule each other. It's better than scheduling the Alabama A&M's of the world every season. I'd love to see a regular rotation of top mids every season.

Since many of these games are either during the end of football or over Christmas when the stands are studentless, I'd suggest the CSU game become a permanent game in Cleveland. Work out an equitable deal like CSU pay OU what they'd have to pay for travel to Athens. This past November, tickets to see the Vikings and Bobcats were dirt cheap and gave the Bobcat faithful a chance to see OUr lads in person. Yes, Bobcats go to Akron and Kent each year but for many in Cleveland the CSU game is the ticket! Attending that game led me to go twice to Athens to watch other games seeing in Cleveland early in the season that the team was competitive and fun to watch.

Make it an annual event and have other festivities available and recruit the heck out of Cuyahoga County talent both athletic and academic prospects while in town.

Wonder if we could create an annual doubleheader -with Cleve St / Youngstown St / Us / ??? (Miami?) - always play OOC. Would think it would draw.

If we're playing make believe, I've always wanted to do an annual OOC-only round-robin style tournament with the MAC and Horizon.

Specifically get the 6 teams centered near southern Ohio.

You'd have 3 from the MAC: Ohio, Miami, Ball St
And 3 from the Horizon: Wright St, N Kentucky, IUPUI

You could rotate the neutral location between Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Indy.

3 guaranteed OOC games against regional mid-majors, you get the tournament exception - and get some neutral games at a larger city for alumni to attend.

Lipscomb is less than 2 miles from Belmont. They should play both.

Road games pump up the strength of schedule.

If I had to build a non-league schedule every year it would go something like this:

Marshall H&H
Good Mid-Major H&M (a la Belmont)
1-2 Money Games (gotta keep the coffers full)
3 C's Classic (one game in Cleveland every year vs Cleveland State or even WVU up there (Huggins recruits it like a mother) maybe pair it as a doubleheader, one game in Columbus vs P5 wanting to recruit CBus/Big Ten team not at O$U that year, one game in Cincy/Dayton Area whether that's vs in-state or not). For me, wouldn't care if we rotated the site of it every year so that it was only one game, but us not having a game in those cities to me seems like a missed opportunity, especially if we wanted to market ourselves along with connecting with alumni bases in those cities.
2-3 buy games at home over key holidays versus regional teams that can be decent a la Robert Morris or Bellarmine and when the opportunity presents itself (if it ever does), pair it with a football saturday in November (again, if it EVER happens)

And for the love of god...play in some kind of tournament in November/December. Beyond disappointing to not be in one last season.

Should have included that and I do agree.

I would also say, along my lines of thinking, I look at Ohio and think that our school should operate like an SEC school in a rural area back in the 20th century. Play neutral site games in big cities/capital when needed and use them to market the school everyday. Examples include Alabama/Auburn playing in Birmingham, Arkansas in Little Rock, Mississippi schools in Jackson, etc etc. I would be open to a football game every two years in either Cleveland or Cincy as a neutral site (would be open to taking on a Penn State/WVU/Pitt/even a Michigan school in Cleveland or even a Kentucky/IU/even Cincy at Paul Brown and split the gate). Basketball should have one game a year in one of the 3 C's no questions asked at minimum.

The 20 game MAC schedule eliminates a lot of flexibility with your con-conference options. For that reason, as I've said before, I'd like to see the MAC play 2-4 conference games between Thanksgiving weekend and the second weekend of December. That way, your late December games with no students on campus aren't the ones that are impactful to the conference record. The Horizon League does this. Heck, the MAC could work out a MAC/Horizon League challenge for late December and schedule some non-conference games together. With our similar footprints, you could definitely get some interesting regional matchups and short trips for visitors.

Not exactly but Vanderbilt's hospital is pretty close.

The school is within walking distance if the weather is nice.

Belmont's gym to VU's gym per google maps is 1.1 miles.

a good non conference schedule would look something like this.
road games against duke, kansas, michigan state, indiana and cincinatti.
pair this with a pre season tourney with a strong field and possibly play a team or two like west virginia or pitt and youd have a schedule that would get the team battle tested and ready for conference play.

As cool it would be to have this non-conference schedule, I highly doubt it. Even though Boals is / has sent out offers to P5 schools for matchups, I think it comes down to that it is lose - lose to the P5 school. If they win, it's not a huge victory and if they lose - huge embarrassment losing to a mid-major. A preseason tourney though is much needed - kind of bummed we weren't really in one last year. I agree with including West Virginia and Pitt, maybe even throw in Marshall. I'd also love to see a MAC / Horizon challenge. Many of the Horizon League teams are near us.

I’d add Golden State in an exhibition game, maybe Boston on the road so our players could experience the Garden.
