From the perspective of Chi Trib writer David Haugh:

Could WGN have picked a less-flattering pic of Groce?  Of course, the kid who's anchoring the story isn't putting his best foot forward, either.

Dont you think it is funny that his leading line is what a few of our posters have ben saying for a while...... IF brian walsh had..... IF we did not have 2 incredible runs his record and lack of MAC regular season... .....IF......

Results are results and the bobcat world is happy and scared right now as the rest beat a path to Athens to take our COach.

IF the world was flat we would fall off the edge....responsible journalism though...presenting the other side of the coin I guess

That's what's funny. If VCU doesn't get fouled with one second left against Wichita State last year in the BB VCU is in the NIT and only people that are paying attention care about Shaka Smart.  But nobody questions his resume even though he's never won a Colonial regular season title (5th, 4th, 2nd).  And he walked into a lot better situation than John Groce did.  But they did win that game and the rest for both Smart and Groce is history.  Unfortunately for us basketball fans we have a football team and we can't pay our man $1.2M to get him to stay.

This may be adding another reason I really don't like college football.  I'll take hoops success and John staying over anything football related.

I actually agree.  I love college football, but for the smaller schools, you can't have both and expect to be consistently good year in and out.

And as it's already been stated, almost nothing we could do in football would get us the amount of exposure we received in the last 2 weeks.  Nobody was really talking about Ball State when they were running the table a few years back.

Basketball is where are bread is buttered.
