Will any players follow him or decide to transfer? None of this has really been discussed and I'm a little concerned about it.

For example, how does this impact Kadeem Green?

Incoming freshmen?

Recruits that have already committed?

This past season we avoided major injury, player turmoil and suspensions. I'm pretty sure Goard was the only major issue down the stretch.  With Groce leaving, I just have a horrible feeling that one of our key pieces will not be back next season. I hope I'm dead wrong on this and might need Born to talk me off the ledge.

I understand Groce going and wish him well. He deserves every penny he gets. Sweet 16's don't happen every year at OHIO.  I will cherish the memory and the trip to St. Louis forever.

I also just became an Illinois fan as well....until it plays OHIO.

I'm not going to start rumors and get blasted like I did 2 days ago when I told you all it was a done deal that Groce was leaving.

But I can see one person leaving the program. And no its not Stevie Taylor.

Players leaving and recruits changing their minds is what scares me the most.  I know Coach Groce built this thing but the players on the court are what really matters.  I can't see anyone who was a rising Senior transferring so I'm not overly concerned about that group leaving.  I suppose some of it may depend on if any of the current staff remains after a change.

I'm certainly thankful for what Coach Groce has done for our university but if he leaves, and it sure seems like that's the case, and he takes recruits with him or other players with him it could potentially put us into a tailspin.  I would never forgive him for that.  Particularly since we're poised to be great next year.

The 2013 & 2014 recruiting classes are large in size and it will be critical to do well.  Strike out with either and we could be in for some trouble.

I think it might have more to do with who we would hire.

I think it would stay pretty much intact.  I could not see any of the seniors making a jump and we all know Stevie T is a die-hard Bobcat.  This core alone could keep the whole band together.

A lot of these guys have Ohio or OU in their Twitter handle. No way they can leave (yes, I know you can change your name in 10 seconds).

What's the latest on our APR #/scholly reduction from the past and when will we know the number that is used for next years season/scholarship count/post season participation?

Players such as Tommy Freeman and Devaughn Washington were pretty upset when John Rhodes was NOT hired and Groce was.  I would guess the current roster will be rooting for an assistant to get the job and keep things going as close to business as usual as they can.  But as we saw with Rhodes being passed over, players can quickly buy in to the new coach as I would bet Tommy, Devo, etc would not go back and change a thing if they could.

With Boals being considered candidate #1A at least by us...You have to wonder what the current roster would think of him coming in.  My initial thought is they would welcome him mostly because he is a Bobcat among other reasons.

Like someone else said, it is hard to envision any of the Seniors leaving under any circumstance.  I also would be surprised if Nick or Stevie left.  Smith already spent a year sitting out as a transfer, I seriously doubt he would want to to do that again.  The same concept probably applies to Green since he has already enrolled and has the clock ticking on his transfer year.  That pretty much leaves TJ & Ricardo...and I don't have any reason to think they would leave.

As for Levert/Bradds/Allen...Who knows, but it helps that Bradds & Levert are local.

Unlike Butler who reatined continuity within the assts with the departures of Groce/Lick etc OHIO cleaned house. Hopefully we are going to keep an assist around.

They loved RHodes and Ku who had beenwith them but would have been just fine if only one was retained in an assistant role. Pretty sure you  can search their FB timelines and you will see "all my coaches are gone..." on July 3rd  THey were fine with Holtmann and Groce on July 4th. Just would have liked being in the same role his Butler friends were the year before having continuity with the assistants.......

and he just tweeted his feelings on JG  "Ill be hurt honestly if coach leaves especially with the whole squad comin back. Been done before though. Geno at Kent State last year."

Not sure about the roster but the real bottom line to long term success for a mid major in my opinion is a coach who has ties to the school AND who ends up being successful.  I just wonder if a Boals, Rhodes or Ford (either) fits the bill.  The chances of guys like that staying in Athens are much higher than someone with no ties.  You just gotta hope they win and do stay (like a Jim Snyder or Charlie Coles).

I've met and played for both Coach Boals and Big John. I think both could be great fits here.

Not sure if Rhodes would leave ONU to come back after getting passed up last time?

Why wouldn't he leave ONU. Have you been to Ada, OH?

You know unless he's really into the Regal Beagle or something.

Well he's already done the assistant thing here without getting the head gig so I doubt he comes back as an assistant to Boals/Ford etc. Also, considering the hurt feelings about not getting hired last round....that was my only point about wondering if he would actually be interested or if he has just moved on.

As I hear it, they at ONU would gladly send Rhodes back.  Some alumni do not have good things to say!

The reality is the players have an excellent chance win the MAC regular season and tournament title next year and make a return trip to the sweet sixteen if they stick together. Ohio will land a great coach and with the roster returning the new coach won't have to change much. If I'm the AD I reach out to the schools only sweet 16 team in 48 years and ask them for imput on the coaching search. This team will be honored with their jerseys in the rafters in years to come. The players aren't gonna bolt. They saw the Trent Day and loved it and they know that some day as the first sweet sixteen team at Ohio in nearly 50 years they will be honored like that. You could have most of this years team have their jerseys retired as they pile up the career numbers, MAC titles and NCAA tournament appearances. You almost have to retire Cooper, Keely and Baltic jerseys if they reach three NCAA tournaments in four years. Kellogg, Hall, Johnson could put up a three peat if we win three MAC tournament titles in a row.  They are part of the greatest Ohio team ever with 29 wins and a sweet sixteen title. Coaches come and go but the players are forever Ohio Bobcats as they join us alumni and fans after they graduate.
