Is that really a step up for him (Martin that is)?

I believe he'll have a harder time winning at SC.  Money talks.

=>No.  Lateral at best.  I do not think a coach can win at USC.

*******

Rumors are swirling that John Groce is the front runner for the Kansas State job!

I saw a poster on another board claim that the NCAA has been sniffing around Manhattan, Kansas.

This could be a good job.  Groce has to be in the running.

Must not be as good a job as I thought if the coach leaves for a loser program.

Martin is from Fla. Maybe he wants to return to the South.

I've seen a couple of posts from mollautt lately... I like how HawkTalk must be so boring that he comes over to BA to talk about general hoops news.

Never too late to pull a reverse Grunkemeyer, come to OU and get a masters in something mollautt. *One of us! One of us!*

A base salary of 2 million would put him in the top 10-15 for all college basketball coaches.

I find it hard to believe he deserves that kind of money, especially for going to a program like South Carolina.

It's kind of amazing that a school with absolutely no basketball heritage to speak of can pay a coach that much.

Must be nice to get all that spillover revenue from SEC football.

Having spent time in Manhattan, KS and Columbia, SC, this is a no brainer for Martin.  Not to mention the SEC is stable compared to the Big 12 whose future will be deternined in large part by University of Texas.  Heritage??  Frank McGuire?

I agree. This is all about conference.

Well, also, Martin was always pissed off in Manhattan - maybe the guy needs to be closer to the beach to calm down.

I know he was on the hot seat, but Dave Odom left Wake Forest to go to South Carolina. Talk about a step down. That makes going from K-State to USC look logical.

I read somewhere that he was interested, but Illinois wasn't, don't know why...
