If Groce does indeed go...

Some suggestions...

Darrin Horn...
even though he didn't survive the brutal SEC-East (UK, Vandy, Florida, etc.)...he took Western Kentucky to the sweet 16 and was an assistant at Marquette and played at UK.  He's still young and South Carolina is a "football school" where Steve Spurrier casts a long shadow...the are also the 2-time back to back baseball national champs.

Rick Byrd...
may not be "young enough" at this point in life but has taken Belmont to a number of NCAA tournaments...quite a feat since they were playing NAIA ball against tiny schools until not that long ago.  (I was roundly flamed when I posted he should have been hired instead of Tim O'Shea back then...looks like I was right and dozens were wrong - sorry to have to bring it up)

Rick Stansbury...
another SEC casualty...had ten 20+ win season and still was shown the door... Had 23+ wins seven times.

Tim Jankovich...
Four 20+ win seasons out of five at Illinois State.  Was also an assistant at:
Kansas State (asst.)
Texas (asst.)
Colorado State (asst.)
Baylor (asst.)
Oklahoma State (asst.)
Vanderbilt (asst.)
Illinois (asst.)
Kansas
(asst.)

Jimmy Patsos - Loyola Maryland.  If you think Groce was energetic you should see this former Gary Williams (UMD) assistant.  He took one-win Loyola and built them into a conference champ.

He just signed an extension with Loyola yesterday.  He's not coming here.

I'll go ahead and state some obvious ones.

Jeff Boals the former Bobcat could potentially bring on Dustin Ford and Gary Trent as assistants. Talk about a holy trinity. A lot of talk and speculation has already arisen about this Thad Matta assistant, and continuing the "Matta Tree" trend at Ohio might not be a bad idea.

Richard Pitino Assistant under father, Rick Pitino, at Louisville. After playing Louisville this season, Rick Pitino said that Ohio University was a Big East caliber team. Richard could continue building the program. And, what a good mentor in his father.

I'm locking this thread. We already have a coach search thread. Feel free to copy and paste your ideas there.
