Ohio has a press conference at 3:45 PM today, is that correct? Just saw my friend post that on twitter.

Yes. THE POST has said that ours is at 3:45 and illinois is earlier.... Would be funny if we announce a new coach.

This worries me.  We can't offer Boals until OSU's season is finished, I don't think.  Maybe that's not an NCAA rule, but it's certainly coaching etiquette, such as it is.  I really want Boals!  I hope we are not elevating Mr. Ford.

That is just AWESOME that he retweeted that...

But the press conference today is probably the official "We want to thank Coach Groce for all he has done at Ohio University and we will be doing a national search to look for his replacement, we feel with everyone coming back that this will be a very attractive job." And then the media will ask the financial question like how much did they offer Groce, and how much would they be willing to pay the next coach type questions. And most likely will hear a timeframe on when the next coach will be hired.

Yes. Jeff Boals the 6'7 220 point guard heh. Chad Estis, Mike Reese, Gus Johnson and Geno Ford do not approve this message :).

Timing should be perfect......Boals spends some time in Nawlins......we interview a few while he's gone......and then Boals returns with a Boals/Trent/Ford announcement.

Well, I kind of view Boals retweeting that as the "wink, wink" in this whole coaching search.

I have to believe Schaus knew this day would come and had "his guy" ready to go.

Should be a fun weekend. Boals, Trent, Ford would be unbelievable for these kids.

While the history part of me loves to see a Boals-Trent-Ford coaching triumverate, just to stir the pot, if we're going to go down that route, I'd rather see a Tatum-Alexander-Devereaux staff because at least they actually won an NCAA Tournament game while together. Sorry, couldn't help it, it was too easy. I'll go crawl back into my hole now.....

Really, the only question mark I have in this thing is Ford.  Will we lose him to Illinois along with Groce is the only uncertaintiy in my mind.  I would LOVE the Boals/Ford/Trent combination in Athens.

If anyone on this board needs signs of Jeff Boals intensity, read this:

Edit* I forgot UCONN had Donny Marshall and Donyell Marshall back then. Getting Donny thrown out was good, but it would have been better if he got Donyell thrown out instead.

There is no way that Matta and Boals haven't had this conversation a dozen times this week.

An up-and-coming coach with a chance to coach a Sweet 16 school, for which he played for.

Sounds like the perfect first job.

I doubt the announcement will come today or, for that matter, until after the Final Four (which be over soon, don't worry). But I would also be shocked if Boals hasn't received a phone call from OHIO yet. And shocked, if he isn't giddy about this opportunity.

If this doesn't go down by the end of next week, I would be very surprised.

Not sure, if there has ever been a more obvious choice for a head coach.

I was at that game in Hilo.  Boals did a nice job of blocking Marshall's elbow with his face.  Why he got kicked out is still a mystery.

That's an unbelievable combo for a lot of us. Talk about selling tickets! I bet season ticket sales would jump through the Convo ceiling.

Do you think if Boals can coach up Big Men that Trent could teach our guys how to jump?

If Boals and Trent are on the bench, I would not want to walk off the floor having given less of an effort than they expect.

The question is...Would Jeff Boals be your #1 choice if he did not attend Ohio?  Personally, I would say he would still be on the very short list.  His profile is very similiar to what Groce was 4 years ago and he is highly respected.  I am not for hiring alums just because they are alums, but I am OK with using it as a tiebreaker.  For that reason, I would welcome Dustin Ford and Gary Trent as assistants.
