Hope you're right, even if you're too much "in the box"!

Heh. I just don't respect D'Antoni. In college, he'd be the basketball version of Bill Callahan.

People want the "Matta" tree and a young guy.  Boals seems like the right pick.  And, MAYBE he stays more than four years!  Hope he can win.

Think he can teach that back court pick?

What is his personality?  Not as emotional as Groce right?  Players are used to high energy.

Just don't see it. Schaus is not the guy who goes with the "easy" choice. Frankly, I would be quite surprised if it is Boals or Ford.

I'm not sure what "easy" means. But Groce and Gregg Marshall (at Wichita) were extremely logical hires that didn't come out of left field.

I can tell you Schaus wanted Boals to be the successor when he hired Groce and tried to bring him in immediately. Nothing has happened, as far as I can tell, to change that.

It's just that I don't think Schaus is the kind of guy who thinks "hey, he's an alum...that's got to be our man!". Just because all of us perceive Boals as the top candidate doesn't mean that Schaus and McDavis see it that way. If Boals is truly the right candidate, he'll be the guy. But I think there will be a bit more critical evaluation involved.

And no, Groce and Marshall were not "out of left field"...but they also were not considered the shoe-in pick that many of us think Boals should be. Schaus will expand his candidate pool outside of Columbus, Ohio - bank on it.

I'm not one to 'break' news, but I have heard whispers that Boals was in Athens looking at real estate on Monday.

The only reward for going through this Groce hiring fiasco is for Jeff Boals to be the new head coach at Ohio.

There's no other coach I can think of that will do for the fan base and the school and the team like Jeff Boals.

Almost a blessing in disguise.

Did Bradds or Levert get recruited at all by OSU?  How well would Boals personally know them and they him?

Oh I don't know, I remember the tiff between him and Sanjay Adell. He'll wear his heart on his sleeve.

Boals is a fiery guy. Just watch the OSU bench this weekend. You'll see plenty of yelling and screaming.

I never, ever said that was the thought process.

I am saying, to the best of my knowledge, that they do see it this way.

Again, my reference point is not this board.

He will. Then he'll hire Boals.

A quad at the Convo would be perfect. Less commute time.

Boals would be the perfect fit as he is a young coach in the Matta coaching system and has the roots in the Larry Hunter/Gary Trent/Geno Ford tradition at Ohio. Boals would make Keely, Baltic and Smith into beasts like He and Trent where inside. Once these players understand how competitive Boals was as a player they will love to play for him. Ohio won't miss a beat with Boals.

I guess I'm the minority but I'm not excited about Boals as a coach. Unless something happened and he magically got smarter from when I knew him in college, I just dont think hes the right guy. He's no Groce.
