I don't think our basketball program is good enough for a full A-10 slate. We're on our way to becoming that, but let's pump the brakes a little bit.

I've always said we should drop some schools from the MAC, and if not then we've got to get out. This conference is like the Bermuda Triangle.

Let's win the conference the next 3 years and then we can revist this thread.
Did Temple do that? I must have missed something.

They didn't need to because Temple is in a huge media market... Philly. The Big East wanted media exposure and the money that comes along with it.

Time for a new conference?

I propose this one:
Ohio and Miami from the MAC
WKU, MTSU, Arky St. and Troy from the Sunbelt
Memphis, Marshall, ECU and UAB from C-USA

A name?  How about "the sort-of middle but a bit to the east of center league" ??

They just made their 5th straight NCAA tournament with two regular season and three tournament titles.

And that had absolutely nothing to do with their invite to the big east. that was 100% football and philadelphia.

They also had the Philly market to offer and the historical success of their basketball program.  Because we currently lack a significant market to offer, we must dominate our conference in basketball and/or football to be able to move up.  Though the football program is certainly on the rise,   we just won our first bowl game, have yet to actually win the MAC, and the last BCS opponent we beat was Illinois back in '06 who finished 2-10 that year.

Also, beyond the wins over Georgetown, Michigan, and USF in the tourney, I'm having trouble thinking of the last good OOC opponent we beat in the regular season.  You have to go back to the 07-08 season and the win at Maryland for a win over a Big 6 conference team.

If we want to have any chance to move up, we must dominate our conference and beat the big boys when given a chance.  Otherwise, we have too many things going against us.

I actually like the thought of starting a new conference like this. I don't know if I would lump Miami in that conference, though. I would almost take Akron from the MAC, unless you're talking geographic locations more than anything. WKU, MTSU, ArSt and Troy I like a lot, and the C-USA choices are all solid. But Memphis is leaving C-USA for the Big East. Would be hard to get them to join a start-up conference. (see source: http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-sports/2012/02...)

Georgia State would be next in line if Memphis is not available....  maybe a better choice in the long run.  It gets you the huge Atlanta media market.  They are an up-and-coming sports school.....did you hear that star wide-out Da'Rick Rogers from ut fell out with their coaching staff and might be leaving for Georgia State?  Their basketball team seems to be on the move. (22 wins this season)

And my reply had nothing to do with what caused their move to the Big East.  It was just pointing out that, yes, they had done something like that.

The only decision is which to choose of the so many conf's which are knocking.

In other news, Richard Nixon announced his candidacy for the 2012 nomination, east coast leather football helmet manufacturers are on fire with employment opportunities, and the Dodgers announced their home dates in Brooklyn for this year.

That was supposed to be a slam on Temple. I understand Athens is not Philly.
