Director Schauss and Dr. McDavis have made it perfectly clear that they intend to leverage Ohio's position as the flagship of the MAC into a total juggernaut.

The question now becomes this: What will the rest of the MAC do? Perhaps better phrasing is: What CAN the rest of the MAC do?

You can not stop Ohio. You can only hope to contain it.

Ohio success and moves seem to be a hot topic on other teams forums.

Zippy fans are in denial.  They have been trying to convince themselves that Ohio will fail miserably...from hopes of DJ Cooper leaving and Ohio's team imploding to Jim Christian creating a team of drunk inmates. Their best response is give Keith Dambrot a raise.  I love that the top two discussions on their forum and five of the top nine discussions are on Ohio basketball.

Miami fans seem resigned to having any thing competitive in the near future.  They have no idea what their AD is doing and why he hasn't even found a coach in 5 weeks when we found one in 5 days.

Kent fans seem happy JC is back in the MAC.  They don't see their administration stepping up to the plate like Ohio's has, especially when they had they chance to do that 4 years ago when Kent's program was going strong.

Buffalo fans feel trapped by Witherspoon...he's good enough to keep his job, but not good enough to lead them through the MAC tournament.

I don't see much from the other schools..basketball's not a hot topic in the West after most of those teams were very bad.

I hear Miami is considering Hipsher.

He probably can't stop OR contain us, but he can cuss at us.

Some of the Miami fans said they'd return their diplomas if that happens..but it'd be a lot of fun...not in a Charlie Coles way of fun though... there was one young fan who said "I don't know who this Hipshire (sic) guy is, but if Bobby Knight endorses him, I say we get him."

Lots of articles from around the conference regarding the move. Elton Alexander summed it up this way:
With Christian, OU intends to continue stepping forward. With its starting five set to return, the best facilities in the league, the largest fan base by attendance and now national notoriety, OU wants to make this year's level of success the norm instead of the exception.

I am so pleased to read these.

Having been a strong proponent of this I am just pleased that the admin is putting their resources where it garners national legitamacy.

I love this place. There is no reason to lose a recruit. There is NO reason NOT to FILL the convo regularly. Vern Alden was right. John Groce set the tone and showed it can be done and the quotes in these articles are spot on.

We need a practice Gym. You have read my thoughts on the inability of a kid who has an urge to get better to get in a gym and get shots up when graduation is set up, another team has the facility, etc. The small things that let kids get better and develope their individual skills are what make Butler, Gonzaga and the mids that have had success over the years get better.

I truly believe we have  agreat strength coach for hoops, will be interesting to see if we keep him. We need a training table for those athletes if we expect them to grow in strength and compete they have to fuel their bodies correctly. Under Coach Groce we bagan to address the nutritional needs and upped our strength and agility allowing us to jump and trap and play 40 minutes at a high level and not looked positively gassed. We addressed the recovery issues so that we were not coming out flat the next game... ....We need a weight room in the COnvo specifically tailored to the agility and strength needs of those specific athletes.

Thank you thank you thank you for the commitment to hoops that this University and fanbase can get behind .....Life is good. Keep winning. Forward Mr Christian, you have the helm

Thanks for the links Ted.

Any chance we can get an update on the 'Links' page to the other MAC boards.  A few of them appear to be dead (WMU), and there isn't a link to the Kent board (csnbbs.com).  Always appreciated.

The rest of the MAC should be nervous, I'm starting to really like this hire. Think about how worried you'd be if 4 years from now Groce was hired to take over in Kent.

Yeah, it's kinda like that.

And we also should give tribute to those who came before and built the foundation for the current success and potential for future growth.  All the players and coaches from the past several years.

Is this a factual statement? Not trying to be nitpicky, just curious. How does BG's upgraded facility compare?

Shiny, but in five years they'll be wondering why they essentially built another Anderson Arena.

Wait wait wait...

We didn't even win the regular season.  First things first, guys.  Win the regular season and win the MAC tourney, then let's talk about runaway dominance of the MAC.

Sorry to be the downer.

Hence the word INTENT....the administration has shown their intention to become the flagship of the MAC.  Whether that happens, we will see, but it does not change the fact that we appear to be putting more money into our programs than the rest of the league

I understand.

I should probably say Gameday facility. Ball State likes to think the have the best but the upper decks are metal bleachers and very uncomfy. I still stand in the Convo on a friday night or early sunday morning when all is quiet and look around with such awe. 13K chairbacks...great sightlines. It is an awesome facility....

As for overall facilities. The  basketball offices were redone a few years back and just need some minor tweaks (nothing like Kent obviously), new training area is nice and provides the neccessities even though there is no connection to the locker rooms and athletes have to leave the locker rooms walk down the hall, get taped and then go back out in the hall (seems like a little thing but inefficiencies add up over the course of every wasted moevement),

Locker room project needs completed. We still lack that practice gym and weight/agility Purdue just added to their version of the Convo but the guys can continue to do their warm ups. stretching and shooting drills then get their sweats and jackets on and jog across to the well equipped weight room in Peden, complete their  weight and agility work out and then bundle back up to go back across the street to continue practice and then watch scout film and clear out before the girls team or volleyball starts their block of time doing the same regimen complete with bundling and unbundling to get back and forth to Peden. ...so yes, Anderson definitely has some real advantages to the programs when it comes to convenience, time management and exposure to the elements with kids who dont want to wear a hat like our moms told us so many times to  do...... but yeah, when you are a recruit all you are gonna do is walk in Kent, Kron or even toledo then walk in the Convo and look up .....at that point we should be the winner hands down....best atmosphere ( and thats when it is empty) Bring em to a game and we def have the best facility....

EDIT.....I beleive ....and some others here can help out.... but if you have never been down in the guts of the COnvo I am pretty sure you get a pretty nice tour in the month of November.....especially once you have made your contributions to the Bobcat Club....

On the topic of Convo improvements, I figured out something that really bothers me about the arena... time to replace those gray tiles on the walls that make it look a little like a large public restroom at floor level. Maybe a faux brick facade to replace those?

I dunno I like the clean look. But faux Athens Brick on the wall with a new coach that may bring in kids who wil "run through a brick wall" for him.  Sounds right to me......welxome to the friendly confines.

It's off topic... but I'll be damned if I've heard ANY better suggestion that to brick up the floor walls in the Roundhouse.

Z-brick runs about $5 per square foot.

---

Another thought about "Intent".

We look at Kent State as having missed their chance at becoming the flagship. They've had an amazing run of 20 win seasons that few elite programs can claim to match; yet they faded. I don't think our intent can be compared.

Kent had a large success. As we just have.

Kent did not commit to improve facilities. MAC Center is the same dump it was.

Kent did not mobilize the base. Their attendance is embarrassing to their decade of success.

Kent has not has similar success in their other revenue sport.

I think it's apples and oranges.

In terms of fixing up the Convo, please, please, please before next season replace all those faded photos of Ohio greats with new prints that are done with fade resistant inks or dyes.   To see a picture of someone like Mike Schmidt that looks like it was taken circa 1865 is a real embarrassment.  Not sure if Mike's is the best example, but there are a number of photos that are just plain embarrassing.  If we are going to be first class, we should honor our past heroes and heroines in a classy fashion!  It really gives a bad first impression to someone walking in the front door of the Convo to see that trashy display on the wall.

It's on "the list," but I don't think it'll happen as soon as we want.
