Guys, lost in all the riff-raff of losing Groce and our coaching search is that by all reports we have taken some big steps towards the next level.  We clamored for it and it appears we are making the push.   Exciting times!!!

The best part of this hire is the clear money commitment.  We sent a very big statement to the rest of the MAC. NEXT LEVEL

I agree. The first order of business is to upgrade our schedule. The next level doesn't include playing Kennesaw Mountain State. The snall market we're in will be a big challenge, as is the small market make-up of the entire MAC.

Play anyone...anywhere.  Can't get caught up in the "they have to come to the Convo" pissing match.

I'm mostly impressed that in the last few days the MAC has picked up not one but two coaches from Big Six schools, granted with realignment the big six moniker  isn't what it once was

Kennesaw State has an enrollment over 24,000.

I understand your point of playing better out-of-conference teams.
(however  a school of 24,000 in a city of 4.5 million isn't really "small"...and while they are not very good in basketball yet, they do hold a 17 point win over the ACC's Georgia Tech)

South Carolina and Mississippi State both pink-slipped their coach...this would be the perfect time to play those SEC schools before they get back on their feet.

Georgia Tech, Wake, Boston College...all are a bit down on their luck in hoops these days...just sayin'

We'll always have a few games vs. low major teams, just like we'll always have a few games vs. high major teams.

The problem isn't playing Kennesaw State. The problem is playing four Kennesaw State's like we did this year.  Then you throw in the MAC West and all of a sudden we have a ton of 250+ RPI games on our schedule.  Other than that I have no problem with our schedule this year.  Keep playing the best teams you can that will give us home and homes.  Only play the big boys in tournaments if they won't give us a home game.  If we are fully committed to bettering the program and we maintain a good record and a good RPI then they will come.

Just got the feeling from his interview on another bat channel in Columbus that he'll work to upgrade the non-conference schedule but that he's very aware of the intricacies of getting just the right mix of opponents.   He was very deferential to Schaus, as he should be.
