When I first heard the news about the hiring of Coach Christian I was a bit taken aback. However, now that I have had the time to reflect it makes sense, though I really feel bad for Coach Boals who seemed more than a little interested in returning home. It all comes on the shoulders of the Athletic Director. When a team wins, the players and coaches get kuds but rarely the AD. Some AD's are trigger happy and some let the poor coach dangle in the wind for too long hurting everyone, the coach, the fans and especially the team.

Coach Hunter was shown the door in a hurry, after turning down a Big 12 job, and look what we got. He deserved better, not to mention the Bobcat faithful. I often wondered why Archie Griffin eagerly took the Alumni Director job at OSU, after being the Associate Director for a while. Later when interviewed, you could almost read between the lines and hear him say that it is a thankless task, high roller donors want input and the best seats and then there are the numerous non revenue sports who need coaches and yet you still have to put up with pushy parents and alums. Though few follow these sports these inidividuals want more publicity for their kids. It is a thankless task.

Mr Schaus had to act fast and whatever move he made, there would certainly be a chorus of naysayers. I have coached at the high school level and been an administrator as well. All I can say is it takes a special kind of person to be a long term administrator.

"That's what the money is for!"

I agree Schaus has made some tough decisions and they've turned out wonderfully. But I expect that. It's his job. It's his job not to listen to yahoos like me when I don't like who he hires.

But I don't see him complaining. I think he understands our ire is part of the job description, no matter how much he'd like to probably shut the site down and send us to the American Southwest on work detail.

I certainly would thank Jim Schaus for what he has done at Ohio since his arrival.

- seen our football team elevate to 4 bowls in 6 years
- our basketball team to 2 NCAA tourneys in 3 years, with 3 wins.
- got the IPF/MPC off the ground after 10+ years of phantom promises
- volleyball remains as the elite of the MAC

I would also like to extend my thanks to Thomas Boeh AND Kirby Hocutt...for LEAViNG...

Huzzah!  Partcularly, on that last one.  I can't image where we'd be if he was still here . . . probably basking the glory of a CBI Sweet 16 with some real stiff of a coach and a basketball program that had to play three quarters of its games on the road to balance the mismanaged athletic budget.

Hunter was shown the door in a hurry? How many more 17-to-20 win seasons that weren't going to land us a spot in the NCAA/NIT did we need?

Not around here it isn't. I think we all have known for sometime what Schaus is worth. Some worry about coaches leaving. We worry about Schaus leaving. If JC works out, I expect a bronze statue somewhere in the Richland/Shafer st area.
