Do I misunderstand? Doesn't 9 seed mean that we're functionally considered somewhere between 33-36? Don't we hope for better?
If experts look at Ohio as a 9 seed that is a MASSIVE bump for the MAC. It means the conference is potentially in line for two bids in 2013, should the 'Cats not win the MAC tourney.
Should we hope for better? Sure but think about this season, in terms of an appreciation for a single digit seed.
Ohio had a great year and got a #13. If experts are moving that pre-season seed line by 4 spots, that is a TON of respect nationally.
Ohio is coming in ahead of:
Purdue
Butler
Georgetown
St. Mary's
Xavier
And on the same seed line as:
Notre Dame
Tennessee
Iowa State
I'd say they're getting a ton of respect here, in regards to 2013.
The hardest part for a mid-major is getting pre-season pub. Ohio is already way ahead of the curve, in terms of possibly having an at-large to fall back on. Being in that 8/9 range puts them in the "they would have to play their way out" camp..i.e. experts consider them a tournament team right now. That's an enviable position for a smaller school.
