We've all been feeling great about the Cats' run through the NCAA tourney.  And what's not to like: wins against two "Big Six" schools; taking the #1 seed in the region to OT before losing by 8.

But suppose the Cats had beaten Carolina, then had gotten blown out by Kansas in the Elite 8.  Which would be more satisfying for the off-season: a close loss to the #1 seed in the Sweet 16 or a total disaster against the #2 seed in the Elite 8?

Personally, I like what happened.  Being blown out leaves a bad taste.  The loss to Tenn two years ago really took the edge off the G'town win (although it's still a great memory).  This off-season, though, really feels good.

Seriously? I would much rather have made the Elite Eight with a win over North Carolina. Using that logic, I guess you wish we had lost in OT to Georgetown that year.

Easy now...

I think this is an interesting question. I'm sure we'd all like to have seen Ohio in the Elite Eight. But the way it turned out, I think we all feel good about where Ohio Basketball is right now. IF, IF Ohio had been blown out by Kansas in a well-watched Sunday game, not only would some fans feel a worse sting, but I'm sure that national media would have said we didn't belong there because we had an easy path with USF and with Marshall out for NC...

Are people here serious? Beating UNC would have been the biggest win in program history. Of course we would have rather won.

It would have been tied for the furthest a MAC school has ever been in the tournament, and the furthest a 13 seed had ever been in the NCAA tournament.

It's obvious for me... Beating UNC would have been much better.  Not only would it be the biggest win in Ohio history, but I don't think we would have gotten blown out by Kansas, either.  This team is much better than the team that lost to Kansas by 57 a few years back.  That hurt, but nobody was expecting us to win that game.  I would much rather have beaten UNC and lost to Kansas by 15-20, which is what I think would have happened if we had beaten the tarheels.

if we win against UNC off of Coop's half court buzzer beater it becomes not only the greatest win in our program's history but one of the greatest tournament wins of the last decade, and maybe one of the best of all time.

we beat UNC like that and nobody remembers how the Kansas game turns out.

As one of the resident old farts I respectfully disagree that beating UNC would have been the biggest victory in Ohio basketball history.  Beating Kansas in the next game would have been the biggest victory in Ohio history.  I still think the drubbing of UK, 85-69, in the 1964 NCAA tournament is the biggest win in program history and would exceed beating UNC, but not Kansas.  Beating Kansas would have put us in the Final Four.  Beating UNC would have put us in the Elite 8 for the second time.  I realize that reasonable folks can disagree on this issue.  If UNC had been at full strength, I might asses this a little differently.  Finally, let me add that if we'd beaten UNC (which was oh so close), I would not have counted us out against Kansas.  DJ had an off-game against UNC.  If he had been as hot against Kansas as he was against Michigan, i think we could have pulled off the biggest upset win in Bobcat history.  Oh, the "what if" game . . .

If nothing else, the bold part. We would have been part of history.

I agree with this. But I don't know if I could have survived a Kansas game going down to the wire............

No.  But the mauling we got from Tenn was really a downer for the off-season.  Plus it raised a lot of questions about whether the G-town win was because of our team's ability or just the Whoyas looking past us.  Taking a very talented UNC team to OT in the Sweet 16 is much easier to take.  Ohio had three really good outings in the NCAA against quality teams this year, and left no question that we belonged there.

All I know is that I had mixed feelings leaving the UNC game. I was upset, sure, but that game was epic.

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days and woke up today finally saying, "are you kidding me?"  Any player who steps on a court worth his or her salt is trying to do the best they can and win as many games as they can until a final loss or win ends the season.  Advancing as far as possible is the ultimate goal.  Sure, the initial "hurt" of getting blown out in the last game may be severe but the long term memory of getting beat in the regional finals far surpasses that feeling.

I'm amazed that anyone would like what happened as opposed to winning the game against UNC.  As my daughter would say, "only in Athens."

But it took you a couple of days to think about it? I cannot believe anybody would not want to make the Elite Eight just because they are afraid we might get blown out. It's the ELITE EIGHT!!!

What took me a couple of days Willy was how to frame a post.  As you well know, the message often is lost when folks read the name of the poster.  I am happy to say that you and I are the same side on this one.

It wasn't for me. They were a terrible matchup for us. Didn't feel any shame in the loss. We went down fighting.

Agreed, plus I would hardly define it as a mauling.  No shame in that loss.  I have a much harder time dealing with the close loss to Carolina.  But every team but one ends their season in frustration.  At the end of the day though we will look at this season with great pride.

The loss to Kansas would have to be by about 50 points for me to choose losing in the Sweet 16.

Which Kansas almost did to the Bobcats when they played in Kansas City.
