Athletic dept is auctioning off the MAC Champs and MAC Tourney Champs old banners, as well as chairs from the NCAA tourney run.

Um... why are they selling the banners?   Upgrading or something?

I would assume they're getting modernized, via the locker room funding.

Although is that an old picture or something?

Why does the MAC tournament champions banner display 2005 but not 2010?

It says it was displayed through 2011.

Wonder if any bar in town would like to hang one of those.

The opportunity they seem to be missing here is selling replica banners, not the original ones.

Something along the lines of NFL Dynasty Banner.

- MAC Champions Banner
- NCAA appearances Banner
- 2012 Sweet 16 Banner

I'd rather pay $50-60 for a more practical item to display (than have the original banner).

It says it is 8 ft x 12 ft. Unless you own your own basketball gym, where exactly could that even be displayed?

All the banners were replaced before the season...they all now have the same style for men's basketball. These are the old style banners that used to hang. I think it's pretty cool that these were the actual banners that graced the rafters - not too often you can have something like that!

damn ... I woulda bought one of the Providence chairs vs Georgetown for my boy to have someday.

Very cool the NCAA does this and lets the school have them.

This is really cool.

My only question is: did each team get its own chairs to use for the games? In Nashville, did they switch chairs between sessions or even between games in a session? If not, how does the NCAA decide which of the eight schools who played there get to keep/sell the chairs? It would make sense to give one set to each of the teams who came out of Nashville (us and UC), but that doesn't explain how we would have St. Louis chairs for sale as well. Unless I'm mistaken and there were 160 total chairs in Nashville and every team got 20 of them, but that seems like a lot of chairs.

Looks like they already sold at least 6 of the Nashville chairs...

My guess is upgrading. I noticed that most of the older banners are not the same shade of green or style as the newer ones. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on that Pre-season NIT championship banner. No idea what I would do with it. Bed spread perhaps.

There is no reference to Ohio on the chairs at all?

If it had our name and year on it it would be a nice collectors item.

Same here. No idea what I'd do with it, but kind of want to get one! To have the same banner that hung in the Convo for 40+ years is pretty cool.

Those would be cool to have, but if I was in charge, I wouldn't sell those chairs. I'd give them to the players.

That's such a nice idea that there must be an NCAA rule against it.

Football players always get gift packages for going to bowl games. Do basketball players get anything for tournament appearances, other than hats/shirts? I think the limit for football is $500 a player or something, so these chairs would definitely be under that limit.

You could just keep the chairs and give the chairs as graduation presents when the players are outgoing seniors, then I think you would be safe.

Hmm...Since these aren't branded with the OHIO logo or anything, I wonder if fans from any of the other schools that played in Nashville or St. Louis will buy these up. I could see some Kansas fans wanting a chair from their run to the Final Four. Plus, who's to say that Kansas players didn't use them as well, unless every team was given specific chairs to use for their games and then took the chairs with them when they exited the tournament.

As much as it would suck to be an OHIO fan that wanted one and to only find them sold out due to other teams' fans buying from us.  What is most important is that we sell them all and get the money in the bball coffers.

Any truth to the rumor--which I just made up and has nothing to do with reality--that knock-offs of these chairs are being sold at a 68% discount?
