Excellent follow through from the POST

SO often student run newspapers get a really bad rap from the firestorms they sometimes create. In this case they should be recognized for the job they did and the professionalism exhibited . I am impressed with the fact that they partnered with the Illinois folk to get better coverage on both ends....Well Done!

Or people could have just read this thread which had all the same info.  Is it really hard to follow some twitter accounts and read a few message boards for the schools involved?  Just saying.

There is a major difference between reading and posting largely anonymous information on message boards and researching, verifying and publishing information in a periodical. That difference may be blurred to some. Many people seem to appreciate less and less what professional (or, in this case, student) journalists bring to the table, but I still believe it's important work, and it often involves matters of far greater import than a coaching change. Journalists do a noble and largely thankless job that's crucial to democracy. OK, I'll step off the soapbox now.

The Post rarely presents me with information I haven't already found from this site or Twitter.

Follow the trail. That info comes from somewhere.

When ESPN cites its "News Services", that's not them getting the info. That's an AP reporter digging for it.

Follow the retweets. It goes back to a reporter.

But as Recovering says, this won't register. People just think it's in the ether. People are in for a rude awakening in a few years.

Get ready for team-based narratives and goofy TV anchor questions.

I hear you, but The Post acquitted themselves much better than many other media outlets during this saga.

Hello OU faithful,

After reading your board for the past few days I had to sign in a comment on what a great bunch post here.  I only wish our boards were as pleasant and thoughtful.  I hate to poach a coach (as Illini fans know how it feels) but I know we got a good one in Coach Groce.  Your team was a true joy to watch in the Big Dance.  I want to wish you the best on a successful campaign next season with a very talented bunch returning.

When this GroceWatch 2012 started, I hopped over to IllinoisLoyalty.com and was very impressed with how many people actually liked what I had to say about Groce (even though a large majority of it seemed to be questioning the choice). Y'all are very friendly and I really hope Groce does well at Illinois (that is to say, I'm not going to be CHEERING for Illinois, but won't be upset if you do well). Groce is a great coach, and furthermore a great person. Hold on to him!

Also, thanks for checking out the Bobcat Attack forum :)

I'm also disappointed to see Groce go, but don't blame the guy at all.  If anything, I'm happier it was this year rather than next as our job will be highly sought after with the group we have coming back.  I'd much rather have a good coach in place now rather than have to deal with the loss of our seniors and head coach at the same time next year.  Once it was evident Groce was deep into the interview process at Illinois, I was worried it may negatively impact our recruiting efforts if he wound up staying here.  I'll always appreciate what he did for our program and I wish him well at Illinois.

They were writing this story, which sounds like an April Fools joke the way things went down. It's actually real though.

As a former WOUB Golden Voice I salute the Post Toasties on their excellent coverage of the recent departure of our late coach, and I look forward their promised equally as comprehensive coverage of the search for his replacement.  GO OHIO!

There have been some KUDOS for the Post coverage.  I believe the Post and WOUB have really been picking up up their game with sports coverage.  But I also think Arkley is doing one helluva of a job.  I go to the Messenger because of Arkley.  I have had several questions answered that I could not find online by asking Arkley on his twitter account.  I never met the guy, but I bet he is really good folk!  I applaud him, and this takes nothing away from the the other media outlet sportswriters and broadcasters.

One thing about the Post.  I absolutely hate the new online format  -- the older version was a much better visual presentaion.  I am surprised with Scripps being such a good Journalism school that the student newspaper's online look would not be better.  Did costs drive the change?  To be frank, I believe I paid less attention to the Post's Groce coverage because the visual presentation to me looks second rate.

Whoal I just had an idea and tried it   I opened the Post using Mozilla and graphisc and presentation looks great,  I do not know why this does not work on Internet Explorer, but I will leave this paragraph up, just in case anyone gets only a barebones version of The Post on  IE 9 like I do.  My apologies to the Post.

Arkley has been solid through all of this. He embraced the twitter situation and used it effectively, following in his blogs and articles. Our indy guys like Kyle N have used their tweets effectively and coupled them with press/online content to keep us informed. Similar situation in the other recruiting hotbed in the Louisville paper exists. Jason has joined these guys in using social media to get questions asked and answered as well as provide timely content.

The Post has done a bang up job and has the advantage of using a hungry team of jounalism kids with motivation to spread out and cover many physical locations at once.

Coverage has frankly been good all around I feel, I was just commenting that The Post does like to take a little backhanded dig at the other outlets in town from time to time, which is a shame, as it really can be quite good (could be better with a touch more fact checking/editing, but that's neither here nor there at this point).

Interesting you brought up the layout.  I'd long assumed something at work (firewall or something) was breaking it, until I read this message and decided to boot into Windows here at home and try it.  Lo and behold, it looks just as broken here.  I'll make sure to say something and see if they're aware of the issue.

On a somewhat related note, the Kansas State Alumni and Fans are not pleased with former Illinois Coach Bruce Weber being named coach! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pr68xLPPAsU

Very surprised by KSU to make that hire....

Also, anyone know if Groce going to UI made the A-News 'News of the Weird'?
