I guess if we look on the flip-side, if Groce does in fact leave, Ohio is going to be an extremely appealing job.  There aren't any other jobs across the country where a coach could step in and take over a Sweet 16 team that won 29 games and returns it's entire roster (save Goard).  Obviously I hope Groce stays, but we're in a good position either way.  Boals could very well be the best man for the job, but if Groce is gone, we need to conduct a national search before we pick a coach.  We can't afford to screw up a hire by jumping the gun at this point.  Again, hopefully it's not something we have to deal with.

True.  Oh well.  I'm a Boals fan as well, but dang, this stinks.

I suppose we could all be overreacting.  It would assume that before he decides anything he would at least meet with the team, and we would know if that happened within minutes probably.

Maybe he's gonna hear them out, then chew on it for a while.  Who really knows?

He'd have to be insane to not at least meet with them and see what they have to put on the table. And the thing I've been wondering is if they are going to to throw the same amount of money at him that they were going to for Smart and Stevens. My gut tells me no, but they seem to be in desperation mode at this point. Not that Groce is a desperate hire by any means, but they need someone in that position yesterday.

I don't think anyone is really surprised by this if it happens. The good part about being a mid is that you do get some shining stars on the way up. You just don't get to keep them. Tis better to have loved and lost than never have loved at all.

oh by the way does everybody think the roster will be the same next year? We are about to learn about loyalty to school versus loyalty to a person. I hope it's thhe former.

Arkley just tweeted that Cooper's "bad news" tweet was non-basketball related, according to Coop.

I thought Twitter was creepy, but camping out in front of an airport webcam is a new one.

Unless your sources from those texts are on the plane or in Mike Thomas' office, I would guess no at this point. Probably just people reading tweets.

I'm hoping you're not insinuating what I think you're insinuating.

There's not many players that are not seniors on this team that could play for Illinois.  Also, the seniors are not going to sit out a year just to have a chance to get a few minutes for Illinois for one year.  Don't worry about the players, they will be the same next year.

The biggest thing playing in OUr favor is that essentially this whole team is juniors and seniors.  I don't think they'd want to leave this program in shambles, and I also don't think DJ, Ivo, or Reg would want to transfer and sit out a year just to play one season.  We may lose a recruit or possibly someone like Taylor or Green, but I don't think it'd be some drastic exodus.

Guess it is important for our players to know how much we love and appreciate what they have given the program, school, and us as fans!

The best is that Schaus will hire the new coach (if we need one). He hired a dandy before he left Wichita State. I am sure he has a short list ready.

I feel like I'm in the minority but I don't get the feeling Coach Groce is leaving just yet. Like someone said, he'd be nuts NOT to hop on a plane to Champaign to see what the Illini have to say. Just because he's on a plane doesn't mean he will say yes. I'll believe he's leaving when I see it on the transactions section of the sports pages.

And if he does say yes, that's OK. I will wish him the very best of luck to he and his family on their new endeavor and thank him sincerely for everything he's done for Ohio University. I'm not going to jump off the Valley View Bridge because a coach is leaving-Ohio's been around for 208 years, it will be around for another 208.

I mean it is 2012 after all...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just don't think Illinois is an elite job. But they are in the Big Ten which unfortunately does not bode well for us for any coach, let alone Groce.

Wait guys, we have it all wrong.

According to Michael Wilbon on PTI, Illinois is actually targeting Ohio coach Dave Groce.

I don't know who that guy is, but I hope they hire him.

Assuming Groce is gone......

If Ohio has a "draft board" for a replacement, what candidates are on it? And in what order?

1.) Jeff Boals, ast. OSU
2.) Dustin Ford, asoc. head coach WCU
3.) ?

Aside from the two guys listed above, I was just curious as to who was a natural / likely fit.

If history hold true to form John calipari will soon be looking for a new employer to lead to a soon to be vacated final four. I'm just sayin'

Edit: Come to think of it, Rick Pitino has been in one place for a couple of years, so...

Chris Holtmann, assuming he does not got with Groce.

My original thought Brandon Miller is out of coaching.
