"We greatly appreciate the dedication, commitment and effort John gave to the ONU men’s basketball program," ONU athletic director Tom Simmons said. "He always had our student-athletes’ best interests in mind. While we are sorry to lose a great person, we are happy for his professional advancement. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

I imagine the ONU message boards are abuzz with this news.  TOS to...

In all seriousness, this was a good resume builder for John.  He now has head coaching experience.

Had the opportunity to speak with Coach last night. He is really excited. Intimated that he had a really hard time telling his team but the opportunity for him is very exciting and his AD  seemed to understand well. . All the assts at DU have had head coaching experience and are on the same page. Expectations are not overwhelming but they all seem to have a pulse on the need to change the tenor of the program. A plan and a good staff to hit the ground running hard. Last guy there had 6 years to climb out of the basement of the A10 and did not . Posters on several A 10 boards call regularly for the bottom 2 teams to leave the conference. At least they infused some new blood in to effect change.

A nice get for him and his family. He will be great there and IMHO I think it will be easier to recruit to Pittsburgh than Athens  or ADA. ALready had a transfer but the staff hit the ground running with kids on campus to see if they can put together a great initial class. Not just wanting to fill jersies.

Big Kudos. Happened fast and JR and family came to a group decision. Proud of him and the affiliations he makes where he goes. Always keeps in touch withthe athletes and families he recruited long after they have gone seprate ways. That is the way recruiting should be done. Relationships and promises kept. he and Kevin and 2 of the better guys in the business.

Not only is everything borna said about Big John true, he can also speak Icelandic.  He once even spoke briefly with my mother in this language of her ancestral homeland.  She grew up in a bilingual home in Minnesota.  He's a really nice guy.  I wish him well with the Iron Dukes and in his future endeavors.

The Big Dawg is a winner on and off the court. Getting players to Ada, Ohio is not easy, the small town and the tough academic situation made it a tough job. John did a great job, he coached against my grandson and even helped the young man many times although he wore another color jersey.

Stay with John and follow him- Once A Bobcat- Always A Bobcat
