'Banner' success was a purposely chosen word: championships or significant national ranking...for hoops signif NCAA milestones.
You could say that about just about any coach who left the MAC - or any other Mid Major program - those with "Banner Success" in your definition are only a very small minority - from anywhere........

RS...I ask the question because my sense is that is so; not often marked success elsewhere--for whatever reason.

Another reason that I think the former would have been wise to stay.

What about Danny Nee. He had great success at Nebraska. He took a very mediocre program to the "next level." He took Nebraska to the NCAA Tourney five times, the NIT several times, and won an NIT Championship. They were ranked in the Top 10 one year, received a #3 seed in the NCAA, but were upset by Xavier. What other OU coach has left for a bigger program as Groce is doing?

Nee is just more proof that Groce did the right thing. He was fired at Duquesne and has bounced around since doing relatively meaningless jobs. He accomplished quite a bit at Ohio and Nebraska, but that won;t get him another D-1 coaching job.

Or maybe an argument that staying is sound?  Is there no chance of us being a reasonably consistent national marker?  I'd think the first thing that you'd want is a facility.  (Not saying that we yet have all of the other things...)

Triple my cube size, my salary, and the talent that wants to work in my department and I will go wherever you want me to go.

Well, sounds to me like you're a pure mercenary.  Are you, perhaps, of Hessian ancestry?

I think an attainable goal is to always flirt with the top 25 and be seriously considered for at large bids.  Like  Creighton or VCU right now.

But, I do not believe Ohio will ever have the funds to prevent its head coach from taking upper tier Big 10 or other BCS conference jobs.  And if/when offered, Ohio coaches should accept.

Triple cube size? I'd take a tiny office with a window any day.
