A very obscure rumor is Evansville.  Fits geographically but what I can't understand is why leave the MVC?  Maybe they can dominate the Horizon, who knows.

From Andy Katz's blog this morning:

2. Horizon League commissioner John LeCrone now has to do what Tom Yeager is attempting for the CAA: find a high-profile replacement. Yeager will attempt to woo Davidson and/or Charleston out of the Southern; LeCrone has to find a team in the Midwest to replace Butler. I can’t see a MAC school like Ohio going to the Horizon. Oakland makes more sense since it’s near Detroit. The Grizzlies have been a solid program under Greg Kampe. Simply put, the Horizon won’t or can’t replace Butler, but will have to make a serious attempt to come even half as close -- and sooner than later.

Agreed. Certainly not a Horizon League without Butler.

I can't see Ohio moving to a conference that doesn't have football.  The thing that's going to propel us to a better conference is likely a high level of success in basketball and a football program that continues to build on its' recent success.  Schaus came to Ohio so he could oversee a department with a Division 1 football program.  Moving to a conference that doesn't have football means we either drop from FBS or stay in the MAC (or join another conference) as a football only team.

I don't think that's something Schaus has any interest in.  If we do indeed change conferences in the near future, it's going to be because we are leveraging basketball and/or football success to elevate the entire athletic department as a whole.
