What an embarrassing meltdown.

Unacceptable.

I said we'd finish 20-13 and 11-7. Correction, 18-14 and 10-8 with a 1st Rd blowout coming up.

Boals has some serious recruiting and coaching up to do for next year.
They're still essentially what you predicted they'd be. Don't overreact to one game. They sucked today but that shouldn't drastically change your opinion of this team or their chances in the MAC Tournament.

They were always going to have a difficult but winnable first round game in Cleveland with anything afterward playing with found money. Today didn't change anything.

We just got housed by 20 to the worst team in the league. Ya think?

We're soft. Too small, too soft. And not that good.

Maybe we were just looking ahead to Kent State. This was a trap game.

Do I believe the above? No, but I'm trying to convince myself that that's what's gong on. Being an OHIO fan you have to go through all kinds of mental gymnastics to try and explain things sometimes.

Brutal watch. I was hoping we could keep the momentum going for Kent but now I hope they use this loss as motivation going to Kent. Where’s my drink?

Also btw to any Fiami fans scrolling through the thread, Boals still owns y’all

It doesn't change the final outcome drastically because there's only 3 games left. I knew we weren't good enough to win it this year but thought we were peaking and could win a tough first round game before getting smoked by Kent or Toledo. But nah. Not after today. Balls or Akron is going to run us out the gym in Cleveland.

We lost today by 20. Yes, technically 17 after a garbage Corna FT and Adelodun jumper (hey - the kid CAN put the ball in the basket!). And it was a complete and total meltdown. No heart. No toughness. No leadership. When the going got tough - we pissed down our leg and shrugged.

Miami out-rebounded us for crying out loud 31-23. We let them shoot 60....SIXTY percent from the floor! I can find 8 guys from Ping and bus em to Oxford and do that.

I really don't think this is difficult to explain away. This Ohio squad is very average. They're talented enough to compete with the top teams in the MAC at times but also more than capable of losing to the bottom teams in the league.

17-12 (9-7) is the perfect record to describe their play at this time because it's mediocre.

People shouldn't try to overthink it and say they suck. That's an overreaction and not the case but they're certainly not good either. They entered today at 131 in KenPom. That'll certainly go down. Last year, they finished 134.

Another no show from Clayton as well. Seems like he has only one good game out of every eight games. He’s been so disappointing. Really curious if he’s back next season.
At this point, I’m ok if he isn’t. Those 1 out of every 8 games creates an illusion in his head that he’s a catch and shoot 3pt specialist.

+1. The Akron and 6 game win streak was much needed. However, this is still just a pretty average team. Cleveland could be a day one bounce or a runner-up finish.

I thought I might get some relief by turning on the women's game after the men stunk up the gym as the gals were up by 1 at halftime. No such luck, WMU scores 10 straight points coming out of the half and now lead 39-27 half way through the 3rd. Halftime score was 25-24 OHIO. Not a good day in Bobcat land.

But, I do think we should all take a deep breath and not think this is the end of the world. We still hold the overall record over Fiami the past few years and tbh I was bracing for this to be a trap game. Just gotta brush this off, and dedicate our frustration and anger of this one towards punching Kent in the mouth at their place!

First stop should be wherever they lost the coach.

Ole Miss is already on that list. I'm not sure Grand Canyon won't fire Bryce Drew. If they finish in 7th place with the money Colangelo spends on that program? If he fired local legend Thunder Dan Majerle... Georgetown and Nebraska have coaching staffs on the hottest of seats.

Thank God, I decided not to go to Oxford today and watch the bobcats. Instead, I watched my granddaughters Soccer team win a game. Face it, if we are lucky we end up 10 and eight. We are not going to beat Kent State. My hope is that this team has a some new faces next year that can play.

Yea, my own personal portal strategy (in really no order) would look like the following:

1. Schools with coaching staff turnovers
2. State guys that haven’t carved out time at OSU, UD, Xavier, UC but want to stay close to home.
3A/3B. State kids that went to school outside of Ohio but haven’t carved out time; but looking to come back home and guys we’ve offered in the past. Example - Tyrese Hughey. Minutes didn’t change much in year 2 at Furman.
4. AAU/HS teammates of current players. Example - Simmons recruiting Kaminski from AAU days together.
5. Whoever else we can get from wherever. Another Jaylin or Dwight.

On the Grand Canyon comment — yea, GCU is up there with mid-majors this year who have been disappointing this season that I thought would be cream of the crop. Wyoming is another.

Speaking of the WAC, Utah Valley is cruising and getting 11ppg and 11rpg from Akron transfer Aziz Bandaogo.

Same here. Watched my granddaughter's club volleyball team go 3 and 0 in pool play and hammer their first round opponent in the gold bracket. So for those of you who watched it, what happened? Saw the score at halftime but figured things would improve in the second.

In a nutshell, Alan?

I'm not sure Miami has played a better game this year. And Ohio is loaded with players that, with the exception of DW and Hunter, are terribly inconsistent. You expect that from freshman. . . not seniors.

Ranked Virginia gets whooped by BC. Strange things happen and winning streaks end.

GCU has a guard name Harrison - soph. averaging 17ppg and a power forward named McGlothan (6-7/230) they list as a junior. Both have had 27 or 28 point games.

Maybe they want to major in something other than locksmithing or VCR repair.

Miami came to play today. They played with intensity from beginning to end. Looked like a team that was not going to be denied, today. Meanwhile, our guys did not play well. Missed a lot of easy shots and got burnt on defense and back-doored on offense by their tubby center. Regroup and try to do better. Yeeesh.

Agree the Redhawks were ready, motivated, and outplayed our Bobcats. That chubby Hawks center needs a longer jersey so he's not constantly pulling it down.

questionable rotations all year... Transition year for every team.. I can understand fatigue this time of year.. I can't imagine how the transfer portal has effected teams.. I.E locker room stuff .. Not mentioning any player or making any inuendos!!! make that clear! We have seen crazy things happen.. Shout out to Charlie Coles on his remembrance day in Millett.

For me, today didn't change the outlook of this season much. I'd rather not lose by 20 but I'm not shocked we lost. This team has been up and down all year in terms of play (obviously have won a bunch in a row). They look great at times and like a bottom dweller at times.

I think some others have pointed out that we have always been likely to win a game in Cleveland and then lose to a Kent/Toledo/Akron in round 2 I and agree with that.

That flagrant on Wiz really got them fired up and it also looked like there was a little bit of jawing after the buzzer at the half.
