There's going to be several really good juco bigs available... one is an international guy. I won't post highlights again, that has already been done...but with the current momentum, Boal should be able to get one.

As far as a more traditional transfer, the big guy at Austin Peay is a physical specimen on an otherwise crappy team. There hasn't been much player development considering how highly regarded he was in high school.

I don't think we have to have a "big guy" that is the typical post guy. I would take 100 Josh Mballas over most guys. Freeman is a freak at Akron and is listed as 6-7. Let's get away from thinking we have to have these monster big guys. Unless you're Belmont or Gonzaga where you have an offense with one big and 4 shooters, then you can get away with a 6-8 guy who can leap out of the building. I would much prefer that with the guys we will have next year. AJ Brown, Elmore James, Miles Brown, Jaylin Hunter -- holy crap will those guys love running with an Ali Ali or an Enrique Freeman or a Josh Mballa. I think Ezuma will be that guy someday but we need an athletic big with experience first. And don't come around here with Euro guys.
+1. I’ve said in other threads a 6’6/6’7 guy/guys who play “big” will work just fine. A Jon Smith and/or Demetrius Treadwell type - who I hated playing but would have loved to have had, are examples.
Can you even picture Jon Smith on this team? Playing off the bench for DW3 or even with him at times? Putting him in a lineup of Hunter, Baker, James and AJB? Wow.

Whether the portal replacement for DW is another crafty 6-8 guy like him or a powerhouse 6-11/255 guy (who can really play)... we all know that no matter how nice a guy G-Wiz is, he is not a 30 minutes a game guy. Not close. There will have to be some sort of new big...juco, Euro, overlooked h.s. stud...whatever.

24th in the nation in fouls per minute shows remarkable efficiency IMO

Three of the top 7 in fouls per minute and 9 of the top 75 are from the MAC. We only have 3% of the teams in D-1 in the conference but 12% of the players in Top 75 fouls are from MAC. Is this:

a) The MAC has questionable officiating, so players are being whistled for more than they should be;
b) a statistical anomaly that reflects nothing whatsoever;
c) MAC athletes are usually less in control of their body, hence the reason they were not recruited by a higher conference;
or
d) other or combination of some of the above?

Can we talk about your insistence to call him "whiz" instead of "Wiz?" His name has no H.
Intentionally spelling someone's name wrong- including abbreviations- is disrespectful. He doesn't deserve it. I know he hasn't set the world on fire, but there's no indication he isn't a good teammate or playing hard. Insult the other guys, not ours.
He's the same poster who felt compelled to constantly refer to Ben Roderick last year as Broderick. Frustrated me every time I read that.

I go for a modified "a" response. I don't think it's questionable officiating so much as for whatever reason MAC officials seem to call fouls closer than in most other leagues. This has been true for awhile. Years ago, before most on this board were alive, it was East Coast officials who were noted for calling fouls for things that in the rest of the country would be consider just a light hand check. I think these things go in cycles, and eventually some other conference will be the one that's calling fouls the most.

If the answer were A, you'd expect to see MAC players at the top of the list for fouls per game and the season totals list. That's not the case.

My guess is a combination of B and C. The MAC is likely to land bigs who are not yet actually good at basketball, and this isn't that meaningful.

I bet it doesn't. There's nothing he can be charged with, and because of how talented he is he'll get drafted. And right before the draft, a PR firm will get a big article placed in ESPN talking about all he learned, how he had no idea, and so on.

I think in this era we're gonna be looking at some 6'6" - 6'7" slower PF guys who are getting overlooked due to their size.

Hard pass on another 6'11" guy who moves like a new born horse.

After watching tonight's game, I vote for a post player who can actually run and jump and REBOUND and DEFEND THE PAINT. A team actually needs more than one decent post player too, in case of injury, foul trouble, etc.

The difference in paint points at the half tonight was a real bummer.

It's a good thing Crump shoots free throws like my 82 year old mother-in-law who just had cataract surgery. He's listed at 6-8 but appears 6-10 and other than his crappy FT shooting had a decent game. He had a double-double while G-Wiz finished with A point. Yes. One.

So, you overlook his 5 rebounds in very limited minutes. And no turnovers. BTW, hard to score when you don't attempt any field goals. And he committed no fouls. He may be a klutz at times, but I'd take his numbers tonight most games, especially since Wilson was on the floor more minutes than usual.

A Center alone is not the only reason opponents can get Multiple drives to the basket in the paint. There were many D misses by many there tonight - And Boals mentioned that as well in the post game interview. That tightened up a bit late game but we cannot just let that consistent type of penetration keep happening....

And MANY had nothing to do with Wiz. Our defense was non-existent at times, with all 5 starters on the court. We play like tonight in MAC tournament and we lose 1st round game.

I agree that good D mean all over the floor, not just in the paint, but a good big man can defend the rim in a way that makes up for the issues that lead to rim-runs. For that reason, I predict Boals will add at least 2 tall guys, maybe one traditional post plus a power forward type.

Getting back to the topic of this thread, I thought that last night, though Gabe had less minutes and not much in the way of stats, save for five rebounds, that he played pretty well. I noticed several nice box outs that allowed a teammate to collect a rebound and/or score.
