CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Former George Washington High basketball star TyQuane Goard is returning to his home state to continue his college basketball career.

Goard, a 6-foot-7 forward, wrote on his Twitter page that he's transferring to Marshall University. He spent his freshman year at Ohio University. Goard wrote that he must sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA transfer rules, and will be eligible for 2013-14.

I thought the latest word was that he was transferring to Kilgore CC.  Seems to be changing his mind a lot.

We wish him well in his future endeavors.

Odd path to get to this point, but this makes the most sense.  He seems talented enough to avoid McKinney like schools, and also seemed to desire to be close to home.

But he's gonna miss out on the Rangerettes.

Arkley tweeted this at least a month ago, but I can't remember the exact date.

Charleston is 100 miles from Athens so that's pretty darn close, he can't commute each day to Huntington so that theory about close to home doesn't fly (I went to his same high school and Athens was pretty darn close).

don't know if this is old news but I just saw where Elijah Pittman will be playing for the Herd next year. Didn't he go to school with Ricardo and get recruited by Fiami originally? Pretty good player out of HS if I remember correctly.

I liked Pittman, but his personality fits them pretty well. I expect they will be highly talented and severely underperform again.... we should still have their number this year.

Coming soon - an article out of Huntington either directly or indirectly slamming Ohio for Goard's travels and issues.....

Chuck Landon getting it ready as we speak.  Saying that Ohio and the MAC is too small time and that he wanted a piece of bigger action at Marshall.

You very well could be correct here.  Marshall is loaded with even more athleticism and talent than last year...but you seriously have to question their chemistry.  At times last year, it was horrible.

They have some really good guys, like Dennis Tinnon, but they also have the petulant and inconsistent, like DeAndre Kane.

If they can overcome these problems, they could be really good.

Landon's blog stated that Marshall needed a designated defender for inbound plays and offered Goard a 1/8 scholarship.

Marshall may not want to jump the gun and sew Goard's name on a jersey quite yet. It's only Wednesday and Ty still has a chance to transfer again by the end of the week.

I think there was sarcasm intended.

We'll see if Chuck changes his tune now that Goard is a Herd: http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x439593391/W-Va-high-school-star-misses-out-on-OU-run

What's funny is Goard corrected him at the time, said those were junk rumors and that he was going to whatever-you-call-it JUCO place. Very odd road for him, I wonder if Marshall was looking to use that scholarship elsewhere and it freed up or something.

I said before TyQuane needed to mature. I don't think Marshall is going to help him much in that regard.

Maybe they recruited him as a designated whistler for football games.

Here's Landon's article...

HUNTINGTON -- What was TyQuane Goard thinking as his Ohio Bobcat teammates were winning NCAA tournament game after tournament game on a magical run to last year's Sweet 16? Was he wishing he was there on John Groce's squad wearing the Green and White of Ohio?

Nope.

Sure, the former George Washington HS forward was thinking about green and white. But he was thinking about Herd green and white.

Yep. You guessed it. Marshall.

Goard bolted from his team prior to the MAC tournament because he couldn't forget his dreams. Not MAC dreams. But Conference USA dreams. Methinks the same dreams Marshall had when it left for the superior Conference USA years ago.

Why would Goard go out on a limb, you ask? Even though Marshall had no scholarships for him at the time,  and he might have ended up at basketball outposts such as Delaware or Blinn JC?

Good dreams are hard to stop.
