Wilmington College would be like playing another Marietta College, but UNC-Wilmington would probably draw less fans than the Marietta College game and create as much exciting for the home team.  They were a poultry
10-21 last season.

I can't figure out if you meant to say "paltry" or if it was a play on your handle.

Why are we always so late with the schedule? We can usually piece it together based upon what other schools release...then finally get our schedule in September. Couldn't we get it out early for once??

I checked every team's schedule that we are said to play earlier in this thread and only Memphis and St. Bonaventure have theirs up.

Looked back to 06-07; our non-conference schedule hasn't been released in September in that time.  Latest was Aug. 24, 2006.  Earliest was July 6, 2010.  The other four years range between Aug 10 and Aug 19.  Should be soon.

Was at football practice for a while today and learned a few more opponents from those "in the know". I'd expect to see these names...

- Wofford
- Richmond
- @ Robert Morris

A few others were mentioned but I can't remember!

Marshall is January 5th. As I confirm them, I'll add them to the schedule page: http://bobcatattack.com/basketball/schedule.asp

The Richmond game would be at Ohio as they've already announced their home schedule.

We now seem to play Robert Morris every year and STILL can't beat them! Got to say I'd rather not see them on the schedule...

Best home game in a while, to be honest.

St. Bonaventure is a sneaky good one too. I watched them play Florida State down in Nashville and thought they were a pretty solid team.

So far it looks like
@Memphis       CUSA
Marshall            CUSA
St Bonaventure   A-10
@UMass              A-10
Richmond           A-10
Portland              WCC
Winthrop           Big South
Wofford             Southern
UNC Wilmington   CAA
@Robert Morris    NEC
UMES                     MEAC
@Bracketbuster   TBA
non-div 1 game

Its a fair schedule. It more difficult from top to bottom than last year. 5 games vs CUSA & A-10 teams is impressive.

I find it odd that we aren't playing 1 game against a BCS level opponent....

A-10 (7th RPI in '11-'12) and C-USA (10th in RPI in '11-'12) don't impress me when you have a team returning from the Sweet 16 and every key player back.

I'm really not impressed. Very underwhelming.

I agree. Give me Purdue, NC State, St. John's, Oklahoma, etc. Give me two teams of Memphis' caliber.

Temple was probably better, but that's about it the past several years.  Both should be quality opponents, and they were actually scheduled on our own.  Would like to see another challenging game on the list.

I love the idea.  But after last year, I have a hard time thinking the big boys wanna roll the dice with us . . .

Wofford is also a quality opponent.  They've been good the past several years.

By early accounts this schedule will be utterly dissappointing to me. No where near the caliber of schedule where Butler's 09-10 break out team took Duke to the final shot.

From the Horizon Butler was able to schedule ranked Georgetown, Ohio State, Clemson, and Minnesota. Not to forget to mention they scheduled Northwestern, UCLA, Davidson, and Xavier. All this the year after an NCAA run.

I don't buy the "Big Boys" are scared of us excuse. Even after the Bulldogs went to the National Championship they were able to schedule Louisville, Xavier, Stanford, Duke, Florida State, and Washington State (at least they were Pac-10).

They're good in the same way UNC-Asheville is good. They're not RPI cows.

The reason Butler was able to schedule those games is because those teams knew they were going to sell out when fans saw Butler on the schedule. Even though we went to the Sweet 16, the opportunity cost involved in paying us to come possibly beat them and not sell out the game isn't as appealing as it would have been back then for a Butler squad that went to the wire in the NC with Duke. Plus Butler lost Hayward that year, so those other teams had a better chance at winning right off the bat. Our Sweet 16 run doesn't stack up that much in the grand scheme of things as far as scheduling.

We have everyone coming back, except Groce. They've probably seen Christian coach and knows he's got a squad to pull off upsets. Am I upset the schedule might not be better? Absolutely. Am I surprised that it isn't? Not one bit.

Also consider that at the caravan, Christian pointed out that a lot of the schedule was already set prior to him.  I agree with the above points though.  Why would NC State, Clemson, etc, schedule us?  Lose-lose situation.  They don't sell tickets as a name opponent, and they have a 50/50 shot of losing the game as well. (or worse).

I like the Richmond home game, and the St. Bonnie home game.  The Bonnies aren't the doormats of the A-10 any longer.  What I'd like to see is some of these non-conference games against the better opponents end up on Saturday's if possible.
