It was good to see they are getting it pretty much done as I went down two Saturdays ago.  Does anyone know if the project will be completed by basketball season or done shortly thereafter the start of the season?  It cuts my trip to about an hour which will allow for more games to be attended.

According to The Athens Messenger, the final stage of the project will be completed in the fall of 2013.

I'm still waiting for a four-lane highway to be built diagonally from Cambridge to Athens, which would cut my time from Akron to about 2:15.  3 hours is a long trip...but I still make it.

Good info to know.  Thanks Business Cat.  I guess one more year to go.  Don't worry SBH, I will still make plenty of games too.

If you really want to cut down traveling time, SBH, may I suggest you become a fan of the Zips?

Dissin' someone who drives 3 hrs? Getting to more than 1 game a year with that long a drive makes for a Bobcat fan hero to me!

I agree.  I graduated just last year and I currently live at home which is about 2 and a half to 3 hours and it is very difficult for me to get to games.  I do not get weekends off and even requesting those off aren't garaunteed.  I'm sure that for all of us who live far away, if we had the chance to make it to every game we would do it.  Do not diss those of us who can't make it because of the drive we have to make.

I have an autistic student in my fifth-grade class this school year and the parents of this child explained to me early on that a symptom of autism their child displays is not being able to pick up on sarcasm and I've had to adjust accordlingly. Having said that, I'm beginning to think it might be wise for me to reign in my sarcasm on this board. Either that, or find a way to denote sarcasm in my posts.

To explain, I've known SBH since before he was SBH and went by BRT, named after his favorite Athens pizza joint from the early 1980s - Big Red Tomato. I also know that he despises Akron almost as much as he likes Ohio.

   My apologies for any confusion.

I hope SBH was being sarcastic to my remark about the by-pass will make my trip a lot easier allowing me to come to more games.  Another thing that make it easier for me to come is my new job doesn't have me working on Saturdays so those games are a lot easier now too.  Getting off at 12:45 and the game starts at 2, I didn't enjoy it too much trying to rush and only seeing half of the first half.  Plus, my wife got ticked with me because I got stressed trying to get down.  So, our lives will be a lot easier with no working Saturdays and the by-pass.  SBH, if there is anything I can do to help you with a freeway, petition or whatever, I will help.  I feel your pain with the drive.  Let's just band together and cheer on another great season of Ohio Basketball.

I'd prefer a 4-laner (concrete) that starts near Blossom Music Center north of Akron, passes below (tunnel) Canton and then cuts south-southeast through strip mining country before depositing me near Peden.  If that's not reasonable, it can end on Columbus Road near the Dairy Queen.  Sounds like a shovel ready project to me - any stimulus dollars left?

Well, SBH, the long-long-long range plan of ODH is to make State Route 13 a four-lane Interstate Highway from Zanesville to Athens.  If you can put yourself in a deep freeze, or a Rip Van Winkle type sleep, and emerge in 2085, you might be able to drive on this highway.

Why is their not a high-speed rail system with Athens as the hub from all directions.  Commute from anywhere in Ohio should not be more than 1 hr and 8 minutes.

My commute is longer than most of yours.

Once the Nelsonville bypass is complete, then all I'll need is a bypass around Delaware and the northern Columbus suburbs along 23, which is by far the most frustrating part of my drive to Athens. I'm all for the I-73 that was first proposed in 1991.

And for what it's worth, part of the Nelsonville bypass opened recently in one direction, but it doesn't help much. It is open westbound out of Nelsonville. Right after you get to the end of town, you make a right and head a short ways down, then jump onto the four-lane highway that runs into where the existing four-lane highway around Logan exists. Of course, it's only one direction and you still have to drive through Nelsonville, but you do get to avoid a few miles of two-lane road.

Driving on the new part out of Nelsonville was really strange after the Norfolk St. game.  Looks great though can't wait for the project to get finished.

Always good that the car finds its way to the preferred post game and pregame destinations.  I'm ready for hoops to start now!
