Inside sources cite the final straw being the use of an air gun. I know lots of students still play tag and have fun with pellet guns but it seems that the ballers need a statement as to the consequences of chasing each other around with orange tipped pellet guns. WOnder if the same fate awaits someone who is playing nerf tag.

We looked at this kid a long time ago but passed on hiim due to academic issues.

Not that it matters, but a pellet gun and an "air soft" gun are two different things. An "air soft" gun has an orange-painted tip and shoots a plastic pellet. A pellet gun is not orange tipped, and shoots a lead pellet.

The former I can't see being much of a problem. The latter, I can.

I'm all for the 2nd amendment, but the only firearms I've seen students playing with in Athens are Nerf and water guns.  My one ROTC friend had a pretty nice rifle, but he never really played with it.

Absolutely,,,,,, carried a 1.9 at Butler according to those close to the program and was openly published in blogs ..... which kept him eligible to play.

Thread off the butler board has some familiarity. Thanks for the clarification of the diff between pellet and bb guns. Far cry from the 3 foot long high powered Rifles the Morris bros were using from high atop Jayhawk Towers with out repercussions.

From an Indy Star article  about what he had to overcome so far in his lifetime to get to a D1 school.

Sixty colleges recruited Hopkins, who pared his favorites to University of Virginia, Miami (Ohio) and Butler. Butler does not actively recruit academic risks, so it was somewhat surprising for the Bulldogs to be in the mix. Coach Brad Stevens said he checked with Butler's admissions office and was confident Hopkins "would have great success here."
