I'm a big Russ and Rob fan. They are professional and entertaining. Their on-air schtick is funny. I think they do a great job describing the action and providing analysis, but the dead time keeps me entertained. If, during a dead ball, Russ wants to tell us how many reps he can do at 225, or what he and Rob are wearing, I don't care. Remember, we had Warren Swain as The Voice.

Totally agree with this.  You will see what I mean when we lose Russ to another venue.

I would rather hear the guy (whom is retired now) yell, "First Down, Wiiilllllddddccccaaaattttssss!!!" at Newark High games than Russ.  And Rob is a little better but he gets me when Russ is talking after the games with this look like he's really interested, trying to look professional, or has gas.  I am sorry, I know a lot of people like them and I am sure they are great guys to get to know, but I just can't get past the "other material" like the workouts and wardrobe.  I think Russ is trying to be a Dicky V and I am sorry there is only one Dicky V.  He's the only one to get by saying how he talked to some players aunt about how they used to eat pork and beans for dinner almost everyday just so that player could have the best basketball camps and clothes.  I am sure if I met Russ and Rob, I would like them as a person but not as commentators.

I don't see the Dickey V comparison at all. What Dickey V does Mostly is talk too fast, and YELL.

Per Rob - You have ruined it for me. I will never be able to look at him the same, will have this pent up urge to be ready to yell "Slugs" when he audibly lets one go

Remember how good we were with Leon Tillman and Jerome Williams?

Just imagine if we had Walter Johnson or Ricardo Hall now.

I love Russ and Rob. I feel genuinely lucky to have them. Like Frank, JC, the AD, and prez, I don't know how we could have a better broadcast duo. As far as radio is concerned, these guys are first class.

Agreed!

I dunno about anyone else here but having endured Warren and the maddening situations surrounding his presence as well as having watched Russ, Rob and Evan build the brand I am amazed that there is anyone out here who is the least bit annoyed by the things they say. I will take that over the crap we listen to when in Oxford, Dekalb or any other set of conference broadcasters that I tune into on local radio when I am at a game. .....

I have spent a lifetime scanning radio dials listening to anything I can when I drive...and I do drive....but let me throw my ,02 in and say that Russ and Rob are better than 90% of the duos out there. I got spoiled by Morrie Mannies in Muncie, the hundreds of play by play guys calling High school and college games in Indiana and the broadcasters I listened to in Chicago. These guys deliver a package that stacks up in content and analysis with the upper percentiles of folks on the radio. Russ' childhood ties to the MAC and the Valley  make his historical perspective unique for such a young guy and offers our leisteners a unique look at OUr team and what they are achieving. .

The media and access coming out of this place compared to Butler, the rest of the MAC, the Horizon, The Big Howevermany,  and even the Valley broadcasts I listen to are not as slick , well done and comparably are fairly dry and uninformative. We should brace ourselves for the day when Russ and perhaps Evan move on to higher paying jobs.  YOU know they say you don't know what you got till it's gone. I know what we got and I am happy to support these guys. Pay em, keep em happy as long as you can and enjoy the ride. UNless the AD can hit another one out of the park in the area of Media this can go away very quickly.

anyone not happy with our on air team should try sitting through this Buffalo/Miami game. horrible. Russ and Rob are great and as someone who doesn't live in the Midwest and can't see the Cats live those guys are my lifeline into the Bobcats. Sure they have some quirks, buts its all in fun and I appreciate the great work they do.

Get off my lawn!

Russ and Rob are awesome.  You have to have at least somewhat of a sense of humor to enjoy their "extra" commentary.  Best in the MAC by far.  We are very lucky.

Lucky?  I can't quite say that and a lot of folks think I have a great sense of humor.  As a matter of fact, how can you sign up to be the commentator.

Just like Castricone, Russ, Boesch , Allie and all the others. Go to school, pay your dues and ascend to the next level.

Honestly?  Yet another thread hijacked by Russ & Rob  talk?  With Direct TV and the invention of the computer I honestly don't listen to many radio broadcasts of any team--but I think they're totally solid compared to my small sample size.  I remember listening to Akron & Kent radio broadcasts in my car while driving to the MAC Tournament a few years ago and if that's the measuring stick, then they're great.  Those broadcasts sounded like Mom & Pop WV high school broadcasts you catch on a bad AM station on a Friday night.

Now whether they're your particular flavor is up to you, but in no way are they bad and worthy of criticism.  And if you can't stand their broadcasts to this degree I really think you could avoid them in many cases.  From Direct TV, First Row sports, ESPN3, watching the OHIO webcasts, finding the opposing teams broadcasts---if it bugs you that very much, then do a little digging and you can find another flavor if you'd like.  As for me, they're just part of the OHIO family and it's like two buddy's telling me what's going on when I can't be there.
