OHIO , despite missing a few key players, takes down Cleveland State 63-57 to open the season.

In front of about 500 Convo fans, this was one of the loudest crowds I can remember experiencing for its size in any sport. There were about 100 international students, dancing and chanting, soccer-style mainly, the entire 40 minutes. Fans kept looking behind them wondering what the hell was going on. The marching band of about 100, across the floor,  started getting into it too.

In the 2nd half, the international students switched sides to sit near the band. The Cats were losing throughout the 1st half. These students and band members kept at it,  as loud as ever, sometimes yelling together, sometimes separately.  It seemed to juice up the players as well as the rest of us across the way. It  got louder than ever. The team took off, took the lead, then held on for the win.

Don't know if these international students plan on attending any other women's games, but if they do, it would be a great lesson for the Ozone.

If it was a similar crowd to the one that showed up last year, they're in town for a conference.

We met several of the Lady Cats at the Marshall football game this year. GREAT representatives of the university. If you get the chance, go to one of their games, because as much school spirit as they showed at that game, they deserve some showed at theirs.

I was not there but I believe it is the Brazilians, many of whom stay at the Ohio University Inn and are here for a business school seminar. I have talked to them out there and they are instant fans the moment they get here. Hopefully their enthusiasm in their cheers could be taken up by the o-zone. I do the flowers at the Ohio U. Inn and in the summer when a group is there around the pool, it is a nonstop party. If all students partied like the Brazilians do, Ohio would never lose the number one party school ranking!

Was at the game, and it was a better atmosphere than any women's game I've ever been to! We were probably a bit outmatched, but I think the crowd was the difference. Wish they could be at all the games - we Americans have nothing on them when it comes to cheering!

I remember these international students came to a men's game last year...believe it was vs. Lamar. Made for a great atmosphere at an otherwise ho-hum sort of game. Think the O Zone could take a few cues from these soccer-style cheers.

BTW, thought the O Zone was on their game last night. Very well done for a November game!

The size of the marketing opportunity here cannot be over-emphasized.  Get them back on campus for a men game this year.  Make sure there's a home footbal, basketball and Vball game when they are in town.

I'm dead serious.  Apparently, THE BRAZILIANS can give fandom lessons...hopefully get the regulars on the right track.

If you ain't standin' and screamin' for the 'Cats, you may only be aiding the oppo.
