Jack Taylor of Grinnell Colege scored 138 points tonight!

138 points
0 assists?
52 of 108 from the field?

He booted Rio Grande's Bevo Francis from the record books in the process except Francis did it without a 3 point line.

Must have been quite a show (Bevo that is).

Usually I am not really impressed by a PG who does not distribute remembering the line of a wise basketball man, "when your PG runs the show you win, when your PG IS the show you often lose" but this lil fella was on fire. Grinnell and Beloit are 2 programs I distantly follow because of their high scoring antics. Well done.

My high school History teacher played Basketball for Rio Grande about 50 years ago.  He used to love to talk about how great Bevo Francis was.  He didn't actually play with him.  He player a few years later.

Impressive but a bit overblown. Watch the video, these guys made this little more than a high school game. He 52-108 from the field and 27-71 from behind the arc.

Video of Taylor's last 8 points

how would you like to be the kid who scored 70 points on 34-44 (.772) shooting and still lose the game by 75 points? lol.

BobcatSquared used to shoot that much in intramurals.  Cost us a couple of wins.

Deadspin explores the "record."

Basically accuses the Grinnell coach of doing nothing more than purposefully trying to gain attention and playing a defense, or lackthereof that generates more opportunities for a single person to take assault at the record.

My response to Deadspin: Shut up. I don't care if that was their goal. It's still 138 points and crazy they were able to pull it off.

That's been Grinnell's style for years and year. They were on ESPN because of it. Get over it Deadspin.

Beloit and Grinell as I stated above are fun to watch. Defense creating offense most of the time.

Anyone think they can get a high school player to get up a shot every 12 seconds while running line to line between baskets even on an empty gym floor? the opposing player scored 70 so he had to at least go end to end at least 25 possessions in the middle of each 12 second interval.

Deadspin undoubtedly staffed by a bunch of former athletes that totally understand the math and effort just to get 70 shots up on a 94 foot floor.

My thought when watching the highlights last night was "Holy Cow, these kids have to be in serious shape."   Essentially they are doing continuous suicides.  To be able to even take a jump shot at all at the end of that is impressive.

I'm sure this is similar to the style that Upper Sandusky used to play and it helped Jon Diebler score 77 points in one game, the most in an Ohio high school game since 1969, and 3,208 in his career, the most ever in Ohio high school history. It also led to his brother, Jacob Diebler, setting the career steal mark with 578. Second place is 364. Upper Sandusky was involved in the second-highest scoring game in Ohio history, beating Marion Harding, 124-123, and their 04-05 team scored the most points in a season since 1955.

A lot of people knock this style of play as "no defense" but I wouldn't call it that when you turn the other team over 40 or more times. And no matter what you call it, it was effective.
