I've also had some friends say they would actually go and cheer on the team once there in MAC play. I didn't get it at all, some of our best games just past by with Richmond and St. Bonie, but rather see us win by 30 points against a BGSU team.

Yeah, you'll have that. Just try to encourage them to come. If they don't, their loss.

I tried starting a few cheers tonight and a few caught on, but most of them ran out of steam. One guy even came over who was a former OZone member and called everybody "pathetic." Nobody appreciated that, I know I didn't because I was one of the few people cheering, but nobody took any of it to heart. If I was OZone leadership and a former member would call me out like that in front of everyone in the student section I'd be as loud as I could be in order to set an example. But after that the leadership was lethargic for the most part and took cues from the cheerleaders or 110.
I saw him walk down, was in the section talking to people myself at that point, I did not stay to hear what he had to say. After hearing the basics of his speech later and reading this that is unacceptable. Coming from the other side, it is hard not to want to act the way I did when I was in the O Zone. The alumni of it take a lot of pride in the O Zone and what is it now, some take it too personal.

There definietly needs to be some coordination of efforts.  Last night, the cheerleaders were chanting one thing, the 110 had a different cheer going and the O Zone had a third, completely seperate cheer going all at the same time.  It will take a little work, but it would be nice if it was all coordinated.

In fairness to the O Zone, last night the team played flat and St. Bonaventure did a good job taking the crowd out of it.  The non-O Zone sections didn't exactly Stand Up and Cheer a lot either.  I think the O Zone is actually doing a better job this year than last.  I have no complaints from them, and I am sitting right there.  The 110 is solid and very well coordinated as a cheering section.  I am sure it is habit for them to work well together.

One suggestion I would make is to use the OU/Oh Yeah chant at least once each half.  Not sure about the timing of the first half, but I would definitely piggy back on the Stand Up and Cheer timeout (under 8:00 2nd half) after the traditional O-H-I-O chant.  I would also not try to split the O Zone in half to do it.  If the entire O Zone yelled "OU", I am pretty sure the other side of the court would pick up the "Oh Yeah" pretty quickly.  The cheerleaders/dance team could easily coordinate this with a couple signs because they are already out on the floor.  The last 8:00 of the games is when the team needs the push from the crowd the most.

We actually tried to do the OU OH YEAH chant once, and yelled it one time and we stopped and then the 110 started playing Stand Up and Cheer. Just poor timing... Also Ozone keeps getting out of sync with the cheerleaders when chanting.

It seemed to last a few chants if I recall correctly.

Wonder if you could try it during game action.  Don't have to worry about the over-scheduled timeouts.

Also as a Member of the Ozone and as a freshman. You can't can the fact we don't already know the chants. There really freaking easy. Half of the people that sat in the Ozone didn't care about the game and only wanted the scarves, and half of them sat down.

I actually led two chants, as the Ozone "leaders" all tend to sit in a pack of about 12 in the front and don't communicate with anyone except themselves. The leaders suck, and I could honestly do 10 times better with 3 other guys...

There is really no such thing as O Zone leaders. Sure there is a board that organizes things, but chants are up to the general O Zone population. Freshman have just as much right to start chants as anyone else. It only takes a few to get it started. You don't have to wait for the "leaders".
bingo, it helps if the central area leads, but it does not have to be that way. If anyone tells you not to make noise or quit being mean, f*** 'em (this was something I heard last night in talking to some in the O Zone, most likely from the group of girls that left at half time). Although, I felt the last 6 minutes the O Zone stepped up and was great. If someone is not cheering, sitting, or encouraging others not to, let them know where they are, and where the seats they might prefer are.

^^This.  There are certain times when you don't cheer (during our free throws, during injuries which is debatable to some, when they are being announced, etc.)  Outside of situations like that, you're free to start any cheer you want.
