Torvik has Rockets by 6, 88-82. 31% chance for us.

I think we'd have to play really well for it to be that close.

Play like we did today? It could happen.

Honestly if the game is in the 80s, I think we lose. Gonna need to bring the D effort and hold them in 70s IMO.

Is it just my username or is anyone else feeling unusually optimistic against this team on a 16-game winning streak???

I was pleased to see AJ Brown and EJ3 get quite a few boards last game. Someone else had pointed out that they needed some improvement there, and it looks like for one game, they did it! I remember our big turnaround game for our last NCAA run basically was a result of a shellacking of us by Kent on the boards. After a point of emphasis by the coaches, the guys turned it around and the rest is Bobcat history. Block out like there is no tomorrow… (It is a single elimination tournament)

Go Bobcats!

Perhaps Miles with under 10 minutes played vs BSU can throttle back RayJ's production.

I think the stat I read recently was Toledo is 14-0 (or something close to 14 wins) when they score over 80.

Someone go remind Toledo they are the favorites to win the tourney, that usually is enough to get them to lose.

So sad to see that video and then think about some of the guys that left the program. Preston, Vander Plas, and Sears. Vander Plas sadly broke his hand in practice on Thursday and is out for the year after a very productive season. Sears is doing phenomenal on a great Alabama squad and is shooting over 37% from the 3 point line. Preston, would be outta eligibility but could you imagine Vander Plas and Sears on this team, woah!!

In 2021 we had Jason Preston (NBA), Mark Sears (Alabama starter), Ben Vander Plas (Virginia starter), and Dwight Wilson (could be P5 starter) all on the same team. Quite a collection of talent and very glad it ended with a NCAA 1st round victory.

I tend to feel the same way. There’s so much more pressure on Toledo than us being the 1 seed, win streak on the line, Todd K still trying to win his first MAC title. In addition to all of that, the last time Toledo played us in the semi’s as 1 vs 5; we got the best of them just two years ago. Toledo is the more talented team this season, but the mental aspect of this matchup impacts it more than us imo. Especially after how we played yesterday.

Sounds like we are in all agreement that the only way we win tonight is to hold Toledo to 79 or less points. How do we do it?

I'm also feeling optimistic. Toledo is due for a slip up and we all know how it's gone for them in the MAC Tournament.

They are clearly the much better and deeper team. However, we have nothing to lose and have been playing great for a nice long stretch here.

What we need is another great game from the bench. If we can force turnovers like we did yesterday and maybe get to the FT line a bit more, I believe we can win. I am really starting to trust our offense if we keep it close. We have a lot of guys who can get into double digits.

After watching this I'm left with the question: Who we got that can pass like Preston or is as basketball savvy as BVP? Those runouts at the end were a real key to the victory. Anybody on our team got that kind of mojo? AJB and EJ have great potential, but they are freshmen. They got play like seniors today.

Another key to victory: more production from Wiz! ;-)

if im the 16-2 MAC team im not sweating playing the 5 seed.

that said, we've seen the Cats suprise in Cleveland in previous years. i think a 30% chance to win feels about right and im not disappointed at all with those odds. go get em fellas!!!

I realize the sarcasm in this post...but, expecting more from Wiz is wishful thinking. He has certain "skills" that could be helpful, but we use him in the same role as Wilson. Setting high pick and rolls is useless with him. He can't handle the ball on the floor and he can't shoot. We all know his skill as a moving pick. I think the worst thing is he doesn't realize his limitations. He could be effective as a low block defender and efficiently use his 5 fouls on the other team's bigs.

YOU might not think they should be sweating a 5 seed, but take into consideration:

(1) They haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 1980
(2) This is now their 3rd straight conference regular season championship and fourth in Tod Kowalczyk's tenure.
(3) They've lost to worst teams than this current Ohio team before in the MAC tournament as the higher seed.
(4) Ohio is playing with house money.

ALL of the pressure is on Toledo in this spot.

Not sure which UT forward/center Wiz can guard. Maybe AJ Edu. Certainly not Shumate or Milner. Both would take him outside the arc and hit the 3 or drive by him. Perhaps Boals can find his minutes when Edu, more of a low-block player, is on the floor.

In my opinion, besides solid D, what we need is for the freshmen and Baker to play more like they did yesterday, along with having Hunter be really hot. I'd be giving Dwight, AJ, Elmore, and Jaylin all A LOT of minutes tonight.
