What's his timetable for returning?

Bob Groce...
Remember JC was signed to a 5 year deal @ $425k per. We do not have the deep pockets like other schools who can just work out a buyout. So, unless JC did something real stupid that could give the university cause to dismiss he is here for at least 4 years.
I believe JC aggressively pursued this position. JS's thought process probably went something like :1) I can get a head coach and not go the route of an assistant, 2) JC was willing to take a pay cut, 3) JC knew the conference and probably still had some recruiting contacts.
I would want to know why would a coach leave the BIG 12 making $175K more for a mid major. His resume at TCU was not good, had a loosing record. While he may have compiled many 20 win seasons he never won an NCAA tournament game while at Kent.
I felt, Jeff Bowles, would have been a good hire based on several factors,1) Motta is a great coach and Groce came out of that training ground, 2) He is a former player and OU grad. I have always believed that in the mid major arena it is always a benefit to have a former grad as a coach. His passion for the university is helpful in recruiting.
I am sure there are some who feel the jury is still out on JC. I am also sure that if the results do not turn around many of these readers on this board will begin to doubt this hire, like some of us have at this point in the season.
Current results may not dictate future performance, however, as we all know it is hard to change the direction of this ship in the middle of the season.

This team seems to play particularly well when they commit around 10 or less TOs (Just for fun though, North Carolina 24 TOs OHIO 13 TOs. Georgetown 18 TOs OHIO 11 TOs).

Both wins against Michigan and USF we had less than 10 TOs. In our final regular season loss last year @ Kent, we had 22 TOs (we lost by 6).When we beat Kent last year we had 11 TOs (won by 22).

*I'm just cherry picking stats so to speak for now because I don't want to invest the time to analyze it all.

I'm not willing to say John Groce is this team's muse. I'm not willing to say John Groce said or did something before our Kent win last year that he didn't say or do before our Kent loss last year. I'm willing to hypothesize that this is the same team we've had for the past few years, a team capable of flashes of brilliance. We've seen that flash from almost all of these guys, Kellog, Cooper, Keely, Offut, Baltic, Hall, Basset at one time or another. It's why they came here; because they can't turn that flash on every night. And to varying degrees they can't even control it. But for whatever reason (maybe the bright lights), these guys can turn it on when it matters most. (even that's tough, look at that MAC tourny loss to Ball State the year after Georgetown).

He stated at the time that he didn't feel like TCU was going to spend the money on basketball to have a shot at being competitive in the Big12, having put all of their eggs in the football basket. I can't disagree with that assessment.

In an ideal world I would like to see minutes broken down more like this:

cooper - 32
taylor - 9
kellog - 28
keely - 26
offut - 33
hall - 11
smith - 17
green - 19
baltic - 14
johnson - 11

I would  also  like to see Cooper, Kellog, Offut, Keely and Green on the court at the same time. Not sure if its happened yet.

And then they inked Trent Johnson at 6 years / $1.5m per......

I haven't heard, but I was surprised he didn't play. He said after the UMES game that he thought it wasn't a big deal.

Maybe it's my even-keel nature, but I'm not concerned one bit.

I'll go ahead and predict a 6 game winning streak.  Then all of this "Fire JC" talk becomes even more hilarious than it already is.  This board is ridiculous at times, and this thread qualifies.

Maybe i've missed it, but I've not seen the fire JC talk. This was a team that played its best ball at the end of the year last year, performed very well in the NCAA tournament, and that experience should have made this an even better team coming into this year. I sense the frustration that this team has lost games it should not have lost, and then is drilled against Memphis, and beat pretty handidly by Oklahoma, the upshot being that this year the team is behind where it was at this point last year. Given that the only cog in wheel which has changed is the coach, it is logical to question what role the coach has in the diminished play, and certainly the results, from last year.

Although I think my head may explode if I hear comments akin to JC just needs to get his own players in the scheme as I read when TOS first came on board. Not less than Magic Johnson suggests that a coach should model his philosophy to the players he has on hand rather than trying to mold the players to his philosophy.

I still believe Jim Christian was a "quick" hire and not the right candidate for the job. So with that said, it is time for action, replace Jim Christian!. I hope AD Jim Schaus is reading these message boards. After last seasons great run and the core of returning players, I think everyone who follows OU basketball was really looking forward to  watching a possible top 25 team...

...Time for a change.

That was on the first page of this thread, and there are enough others that I've read that fit the "Fire JC" talk. I'm not trying to start something, just pointing out there are actually people calling for his head already.

+1 and LOL from a single-digit post counter.

I disregarded the "replace JC post" immediately not because of post count but because it's just plain silly and ignorant.  This is not the NBA folks.

I would like to know how JC is coaching Ivo, especially with his lack of an inside game and noted absence from the free throw line.  Don't you draw something up for Ivo to go to the basket hard and tell him to get in there and get a bucket or get fouled?  And when Nick's shot isn't falling (0-11 from 3 last 2 games, 0-1 from 2), don't you try and get him to attack the basket too?  Or is that just not Nick's game?  I know Ivo can get shots in the paint with deft spins and not fade aways, his emergence sophmore year was based on those shots.

Groverball....the coaches can work on Ivo's inside game in practice, (which they do)  and encourage him to take the ball strong to the ring when he gets the chance, but if that is not a big part of his skill set by now, it is my bet that he is never going to be a "beast" inside !!   Same thing with Nick.  He has always been a perimeter player.   He is not going to suddenly turn into a great driver of the basketball and make lots of plays off his dribble.  That is not his game.  Can he make improvements and try to get better off the dribble ?  Yes, but at this stage in his career, he is not going to turn into something that he is not !   We are who we are!

"I hope Jim Christian is reading this message board"   My only thought is a great big LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL.  If Coach Christian is reading this message board and reflecting on anything said, than he does need to be fired.
