Why is it Bowling Green can attract Michigan St to play in their arena, and
OU seems to get mid-majors at best!

Just guessing.  It's only a three-hour bus ride from East Lansing.  MSU seems to be more willing than most Big Pickanumbers to work with MAC schools in playing a road game.  They played at EMU last year in b-ball and at CMU this year in football.  Looks like it's some kind of 2 for 1 deal; BG played up there last season.

Izzo embodies "Anybody, anytime, anyplace" more than any other coach of a college basketball blue blood.

If all it takes is a 2 for 1 to get MSU and other teams of that caliber into the Convo, then I'm all for scheduling 2-4 of those every single year. After two years, you could have a marquee home game or two every season. Yes please.

Why not? Who is opposed to this? What do we have to lose - name opponent games on the road that we likely do anyway, and get marquee games in the Convo?

I'll go further.  I'll take 3 for 1s if need be to get teams like MSU, Purdue, maybe Minnesota, Pitt, or other decent programs into the Convo.  If you could work it out over a 5 year timeframw where you play one game in Athens, one neutral site, and two games in their gym, I'm all for it.

Who knows if they'd be up for it, but if you want to easiest way to build the fanbase, keep playing great teams.

We're getting little to nothing out of games versus Eastern Maryland Shore, Wofford and Hampton.  Who cares if we lose 5-7 games in OOC?  If they come against good teams, what could it hurt?

Not Big Ten, but why not West Virginia? A three-way rivalry with them and Marshall would be fun. Or Xavier maybe?

In 2003 Wisconsin came to the Convo. With US 33 bypass around Nelsonville, you could get to Athens from the airport in 1 hr and 15 minutes.

We used to play WVU.  That stopped after we beat them.  Used to pay Xavier too.  I assume they are afraid of he sleeping giant.

I've seen this mentioned a few times on here. They did not come to the Convocation Center...the game was played in Cleveland.

That Wisconsin game was one of the worst beatdowns in recent memory. We were never in that game from tip. Along with Pitt, Kansas, Louisville, and now maybe Memphis. They all bring back bad memories.

Wisconsin played in the Convo in December following Knorr's first season as head football coach at Ohio. I remember this because I had a conversation with Boeh before the game, expressing my disappointment in his choice to replace Grobe.

Hindsight being 20-20, no?

What about Cincy?  I remember playing them in Cleveland at the Q couple years ago and it was Dec 30th.  You think they would be opposed to traveling an hour or so to the Convo and we make the trip over there the following year and so on and so on.  There is even Xavier as previously mentioned.  One of these two should be down for playing us.

Assistant MSU athletic director Greg Ianni is an Ohio grad.  I think there are many others.

Greg Ianni and Michigan State are scared to death of Ohio.  As are most of the Sports Ad program alums.

What else could it be?

Ohio had a 1 for 1 series with WVU back in the 90's when WVU was only an Atlantic 10 program. Bob Huggins has said repeatedly that he has interest in playing Ohio on an annual basis down in Charleston and that he was in negotiations with Ohio to have another series established soon. There is a lot of reluctance to schedule a MAC school on the road. I've liked the idea of structuring the football/basketball deals with the BCS schools so that a school like Penn State would be 1 and done on the road in football but 1 for 1 in basketball. Similarly we could play Syracuse 1 and done on the road in basketball and 1 for 1 at home in football. To even get  a school like Alabama or Nebraska in the Convo would be exciting for fans.

I remember that game. I made the trip over Winter break. The Convo was almost filled to capacity with Kentucky fans.

I'd be happy to do a series with WVU. Though the fans are different the cities and basketball arenas are quite the same. Morgantown is a town of 30,293 and a basketball arena of 14,000 seats. Athens 23,832 and 13,080 at the Convo. The Campus's are also only 2 hours and 30 minutes apart. I think we should have a series.

Read Uncle Wes's post closely, he says that "Higgens is interested in having a series IN CHARLESTON, as in a completely one-sided series.

I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the basic reason that BG can get a Big10 school into their gym but we can't is that the Big6 conference school sees themselves as way more likely to lose to us than BG.
