Most people forget "What is... Buffalo sucks?" happened during the semifinals, making it all the ballsier because Buffalo hadn't even made the finals yet.

To my knowledge, nobody has ever found Hans. Must've fallen out of a building.

Awesome! Thanks for the link, JSF. That sounds like the article I was thinking of.

It was actually halftime of the second semifinal the night before when it happened.  We had already beaten Miami and advanced.

This is right. If you remember, Buffalo had brought like nine busloads of students to the game. They were seated for our clash against Miami and were loudly cheering against us and for Miami all game (as an aside: it was the most students to ever root for Miami during one of their basketball games).

The OU section, especially the OZone was perturbed with Buffalo, so during the 2nd game as they played WMU, the OZoner who was selected to participate in the promotion got our comeuppance.

Also, does anyone remember the student, I think he was, that ran up and down the aisle to the Buffalo student section with the Bobcat shirt waving it in their faces?  That was classic!!!

What's great about this is it also captures one of my other favorite meme's from that 2005 run.

Yep, TOS really cemented his popularity with the other MAC schools when he uttered that little gem.

They went so far as to invade our section during the Miami game, giant Reggie heads in tow, to taunt us. It still strikes me as weird. Why spend so much time and energy harassing a potential opponent when your real one is there?

Don't forget his sympathetic comments about the West.

My roommate and I only were there for the first semifinal, but EVERYONE that had stayed for #2 was talking about that before the finals. I didn't actually see/hear/read? it in its full glory (I don't think I ever actually saw it, was there a video? I honestly forget) until a few years later.

Wow, my memory is bad. I did an up and back for the games instead of staying in Cleveland after the semifinal because I wasn't convinced we'd make the finals. I got my days mixed up. That whole tournament was a blur of excitement.

What's the "What is...Buffalo sucks?" game. (Nevermind, just read the thread)

Funny thing is, I'm a huge Ohio fan now since I go to college here but I was on the other side of the spectrum for that game. I was a big UB fan back then as they started getting popular around Buffalo at the time. I had followed them very closely all year. They had a great team led by Turner Battle, finished with an RPI of around 40 and were projected by many to be an at-large team. Despite the fact that I love Ohio now, that still goes down as one of the most heart-breaking losses I have ever watched.

So while times have changed and my loyalty's have shifted to Ohio. Its still very strange for me to read about that game and think positively about Ohio. I'm happy for all Bobcat fans and all of you on this board that Ohio won have to admit that tore apart one the proudest times for Bulls fans in their history.

I started this thread and haven't been back to read it until now, and it's great to read other accounts.  I know it was a big game and fun for everyone to watch, one of Ohio's best; but it's good to see that other people feel the way I do about that game.  By far the greatest sporting event I have ever been to.

To this day I follow the Bobcats closely even from Japan, watching every webcast I can, and keeping up with all of the latest news and analysis from my fellow (completely unbiased) Bobcatattackers.  But nothing can ever compare to that short window that you are a student at Ohio University, completely invested, part of it.  I was lucky enough to be right in the middle of my time there when all this went down.

The "Buffalo Sucks" incident is perfectly clear in my mind, but the rest is just a blur of awful lows, incredible highs, deafening noise, and just raw emotion. (The alcohol may have had contributed to one or more of these things.)  After the game on my way through the concourse, I started singing the fight song as loud as I could and it caught on...I could hear it the whole way around Gund Arena.  I was so proud at that moment to be a Bobcat, and that feeling has not gone away since.

He Hate and Athena, you stole my thunder!  "Ohio, Ohio and Ohio" was one of the top moments of the tournament.

I swear, every morning I woke up and my first thing was to peruse the Plain Dealer sports section to see what the latest TOS gaffe was.  Simply an amazing performance by O'Shea up there.

I also remember how much TOS actually enjoyed that tournament.  I remember watching him on press row after we won our semifinal game over Miami, and when the Buffalo section got real loud, he turned around and looked up at them with a big smile on his face.

I also remember that tournament for my wife surprising me by showing up right before our semifinal game...and how Linda Halbert helped her come up with a ticket for the session.

Good times!  I'll never forget giving up on Ohio when we fell behind by 17 during the second half of the title game vs. Buffalo.  Then my wife really got on my case, and she turned out to be right!  Then I ended up knocking her to the floor on the way out to celebrate on the court after Leon's tip in.
