I checked some statistics on ESPN just now. This morning, DJ Cooper's 8.5 assists per game is tied for second nationally with Larry Drew of UCLA. #1 is Michael Carter-Williams at Syracuse at a whopping 10.1 APG. Fantastic work, but not much of a surprise.

The big surprise...drum roll, please... Reggie Keely leads the country in field goal percentage at .699. So, Reggie's a "maker" now?

I do not think there are very many 4/5's save for the" Big Smooth " and Arvydas Sabonis that are included much in the discussions on this continent between shooters and makers.

All stats given...... Leon is the better "maker" being 1/1 from beyond the arc while Reg is 1/2 career

Reg finishing his shots inside is a remarkable thing and helps this team immeasurably with it's glaring lack of inside presence. When I saw him yesterday post game I said "glad to see the guy who beasted Greg Monroe is back in the house" getting a smile outta the big fella.

Thanks for the stat update. .

I remember when Leon drained his Ms Love jumped for joy. Yesterday was pretty good. Got a look from directly behind when he released.....nice shot.

all of our stats are solid except for Rebounds. essentially Rebounds have lost us 3 out of our 5 losses.

Exactly. I think we could easily be sitting 12-2 right now if we work on rebounds and turnovers. Also, make sure if someone is cold shooting to give others playing time as we have such a deep bench.

On the stats, let's not forget the big gap between Ohio free throw attempts vs. opponents free throw attempts.  It's a huge reason for a couple of the L's in the standings.  I'm pretty confident that by the end of January, coach will have this group playing very, very well consistently.

DJ Cooper is 2nd with assists per game at 8.4.

Keely is 3rd shooting .688% per game 

17th in Shooting percentage at .487%

50th in points per game 75.3%

and

308th in rebounds per game - this stat is killing us.

How are we doing in 3 point defense?  I feel that was our ticket to the sweet 16 last year.

828:  On rebounding, I hope JSF intervenes here with some instruction.  It would be better to look at percentage of available rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Our assist stats are really, really good...and they've been getting even better recently.

I know we have the same discussion every year, but when the ball "pops" from person to person on offense we are really difficult to defend.  Even more so if Ivo continues his willingness to attack the rim.

Keely drives in, but doesn't always get the rebounds. We can win any game if DJ controls the ball the majority of the game without any turnovers. With Cooper choosing better shot selection and not turning over the ball, this is our conference to win. As for the three-point defense. If we worry about the three ball we will sell out the inside shot or the rebound. I don't know how our rebounding faired last year, but with us being able to knock down shots and pass we can win games on the offensive side. I think we have a team that can take us to the sweet 16 again it just depends who steps up in each game. If Cooper dishes out 10+ assists we will win. If Offuit scores 20+ a game we win. If Baltic grabs 5 rebounds, have several assists, and scores 10+ points we win. Keely shooting over 70% we will win.

In the North Carolina game, one can only wonder what might have happened if their big guy had not poked Coop in the eye, allowing them to get a clean look on offense and score.  That defense seems a million miles away. This year, you would get pretty good odds from a Las Vegas bookie if you bet that Michigan would not score in the last 3 minutes of the game against Ohio (maybe 5-1 or 10 to1). Last year this same cast of characters was able to pull it off, and it was not by accident. That, and on offense some awesome 3 point shooting by Coop, Walt, and Nick was key.  Also, need to see the offense perform against the big boys, like they did against Louisville last year early in the season. Hopefully, we get a winning streak going and Espn gives us a real opponent  in this years bracketbuster.  A win against a quality team on the road would be nice.

I would love for it to be Dayton or some well known prominent team that is close by.

I think DJ has a shot at breaking the single game assists record multiple times thru the rest of the season, maybe even increasing it a couple times. Lately on a tear playing a lot less than even 30 minutes. We get into to some games that he has to play high 30's minutes and he could push over 20 - maybe even scare the NCAA single game record which I think is 22?

Today DJ led us in every major statistical category. 

16 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, 1 block (Smith only credited with 1 also, although I swear he had at least 3)
