My son's basketball just got canceled for today so the wife and I decided to bring the boys up for this one. I tried to buy tickets online at ohiobobcats.com and over the phone. The game is no longer listed on the website and the ticket office is closed. Any suggestions would be appreciated? I assume we wont have trouble buying walk-ups, but with a two hour drive, it would be nice to have that already taken care of. Thanks in advance!

From the Toledo Blade regarding the relationship between Christian and Kowalczyk.

Man that's backwards!!!!!  Why would you unlist the game on the sales website on game day before the event?  There should be the ability to purchase tix and have them ready at will call all the way up to gametime....I mean we are just talking about emails here....not the pony express for delivery anymore....

I didn't call the ticket office...but if they are closed on a Saturday game morning....thats even more backwards/strange.

I also plan on buying 2 walk ups....but since I am only driving from 20 min away...its not much of a gamble for me....

Just come to the game. I think they always cut sales off the day beforehand. There should be a nice crowd, but there's no danger of a sellout.

One stat that stands out to me is that Toledo does a good job of getting to the line and then they are hitting nearly 77%.  So, with Ohio's tendency to foul, that could help the Rockets...so I hope we get a good whistle today and they aren't calling every bump.

Otherwise, it looks like we match up very well with the Rockets.

Oh, c'mon, Jeff.  You know that we should be 7-point underdogs.

I have 4 extra tickets free to anyone that wants them. I know it's short notice, but maybe someone will need them. Send a PM or email me and I can either meet you in the lobby or leave the tickets at will call.

I think this was the best inside effort all season.  Although we were outrebounded by 6, we won the offensive glass 8-7 and had 6 blocks.  Keely, of course, was huge, but Baltic may have had his most complete game of the season; he was at it from start to finish.  Despite the record, Toledo is a very good team -- one of the top five in the MAC.  They had a lot to prove after Wednesday's loss to WMU and came out pumped.  Loved the 2nd half effort by Cats.  Gotta beat Fiami next.

Beautiful day in Athens...

  • Reggie best game ever!  9 for 9 and I don't think any of them touched the iron.  Shoot more, Reg.
  • Ivo was awesome!  Attacking the paint, he even got fouled once!  Growing a pair for the rest of the season
  • Our guards were bad (at least in a scoring sense) and our bigs were incredible.  It reminded me of the "That $&@! will be their all day long!" days.
  • Jon Smith has averaged just 13 minutes per game the last 10 games.  We went from raving about him the first 6 games of the year to him struggling to get minutes.  I do think it is Reggie & Ivo's time to shine, barring any drastic changes, and don't think he should eating into their minutes much....but I'm not sure he should be playing just 7 minutes either.
  • And on the flipside, Ricardo is picking up minutes like mad.  He shot well today but I don't think he'll ever be the guy to look to as a shot maker...But he could bet he answer to our rebounding woes.  He does a great job of position and timing himself to grab the board...Really the only guy on the team I can say that about.
  • Speaking of, the rebounding really truly is bad.  Multiple times we just got completely taken on rebounds that should have been ours.  Other times we had poor position.  Same story most every game.
  • Nick had a rough time.  Missed a few wide open 3s, and even missed back to back free throws...Didn't think I would ever see that.  He is really slumping...11 for 42 in the last 7.  Personally, I think we stick with him and enjoy the hot streak he is about to go on.
  • What ever happenned to half time entertainment?  Viking Magic? Chinese Bowl Lady?  Quick Change?
  • Sorry but the Ozone continues to look thinned out and disunified.
If we lose to Miami...I'll be a wreck.

Perhaps, but I'd bet that we're averaging more students per game than any season in a loooong time...I'm not complaining.

The fact that we had that many students there today without a giveaway/free food was quite impressive.

There were many aspects I liked about tonight's game including what other have stated.
However, it appeared to me that the team played at a high energy level for most of the game which I haven't seen too often this year. In addition there wasn't any real scoring droughts.
Great game.

I thought Ivo showed his complete scoring arsenal - fast break dunk, jumpers, high post to the bucket. I'm very pleased with what he did today.

All in all, the only thing I can complain about is the free throw shooting. We didn't foul at an obscene rate, we protected the ball, and although we got outrebounded, I thought we collected all of the boards that mattered the most.

I'm happy we won but we shouldn't have to worry about dodging bullets from a 6-9 MAC team when at home who got drilled at WMU last week. We need to play better this week than we did last week or we will find ourselves 0-2 next Sunday. That being said shot out to Big Reg, Stevie, and Rik last night.

Because Toledo was only 6-8 comming into the Convo and that they got drilled by WMU is exactly why we had to be ready, and we should have been worried!    They are a very athletic, young team who will win some games in the MAC, and may very well beat one of the top 3 teams in the league before this is all over.   You had better be ready to play every night from here on out, or you will get your lunch handed to you more than once between now and tourney time !

Driving to Athens with a UT fan I did a lot of bragging about DJ's career numbers. I shared a story how over three years ago my daughter and I couldn't believe this baby-faced 150-pounder warming up for his first game in the Convo was actually a college freshman and not a middle school student who snuck into the team's layup line and now he's winding down one of the best careers of any collegiant point guard.                                                                                                         Having said all that, I am still puzzled why DJ is the Ohio player taking technical foul shots -last night v. UT, last week v. UB - when Kellogg is also on the floor. I assume this is JC's choice. No?

My observations are similar to most already stated.  The game was hard fought right from the get go.  No scoring droughts was a critical variable.  Toledo was VERY physical.  I thought we were pushed out of position (at both ends of the court) more in this game than any other I have seen.  We reacted well and still made positive things happen. There were some very different looks on offense the first half when Toledo did some different things to try to bottle up DJ and his ability to dish the ball--zone and different patterns of defense all aimed at keeping DJ from doing what he does best--Nothing worked long due to some different offensive sets.

OUr defense was intense all game.  Somehow, it seems like everyone we play thrives on this intense in-your-face defense and hits shot after shot with an hand in their face.  OUr perseverance pays off-which seems to be a difference between our wins and our losses.  Everyone is bringing their best game against OHIO.  If we let down they can build a lead and we have to work that much harder after the let down to get back into the game.  Most teams can stay with us for a while but they cannot stay with us for a whole game, unless we have period of let down,

Toledo is a very good team with a not so good record.  Their record is most likely a product of lack of focus and resolve due to their post season ban.  I would not want to be playing them again.

The next stretch will be brutal for OUr team,  Usually I do not get to the stage of excitement that I already have reached until the beginning of the second round of inter-divisional play.  Already the 3 or 4 days in between games is beginning to seem like eternity.  So much at stake, so much intensity, and so much angst.

Just my thoughts on a pleasant Sunday after a Saturday game.

I feel like its normally DJ or Walt who take the T-shots (that is 100% based on observation, I have no statistics to back it up). Since the technical was called for a tie-up with Offuct, maybe he was still a little amped up and JC thought DJ would have the steadier hand.

Kellog and DJ are our two best bets to shoot technicals imo.  That being said, Nick missed two in a row late in the game !!   "That's why we play the game !!"

I've been asking about DJ shooting the tech throws in the chat. He's not a good free throw shooter. Why is he taking those?

Huh?  He was a career 75% ft shooter coming into this year.  He's down a little this year but my guess is he'll finish around 75% by the end of the year.  Kellogg is obviously better but I would definitely classify DJ as a good FT shooter.
