Just watched on STO.  Good lord, I thought our game on Saturday was ugly.  Bad basketball.

I'd never seen EMU's arena before.  It looks pretty nice.  What didn't look very nice were the maybe 1,200 fans in attendance.  Sad state of affairs in Ypsilanti.

Same here - caught the last 10 minutes or so. That was some awful stuff. EMU might have some game on D - but they were like 20% from the FT line last 5 minutes of the game? Were there actually 1,200 in that place?

I was trying to be kind.  It may have been less.

Not even close. Our women's basketball crowds are slightly larger than what I saw on TV tonight. Fan support at most MAC schools is embarrassment for D1 basketball.

It's only an embarrassment if you think people care about college basketball before March, which almost no one does.

By the way, the EMU-BG game was worse.

EMU's arena opened in 1998. It sits 8,824. I think they should've went for a 4,700 seat stadium. Like Bowling Green, then building an almost 9,000 seat stadium and not even getting 20% crowds.

Huh? There's lots of D1 programs that have good crowds year-round. Last year, over 90 programs averaged 6,000+ per game. The lack of interest across the MAC (i.e. crowds in the hundreds or thousands) is a bit alarming.

Saying no one cares is a hard argument to make, IMO.

Huh, I wonder why I was with 24,000 people at rupp tonight then.

For a fairly new arena, EMU's has terrible TV sight lines. I thought I was watching a game from old St. John Arena.

We're talking about, what, 350,000 in a country of 320 or so million? I put it to you less than 1% of the population attends a college basketball game before March. Maybe 2% watch it on TV with some regularity. To me, that's almost nobody caring.

I agree with his 72s original statement.  MAC attendance is an embarassment.  But, at most of the schools, so is the product, so it's hard to blame the fans.

Just makes me thankful for what we have in Athens.  I love leading the league in attendance every year.  Now, I just want to lead the standings as well.

I wonder how many NKU, EKU, and Morehead alumni were there with you.

I thought at times Eastern played pretty good basketball last night.  They definitely faded down the stretch but held on for the win.

Eastern's 2-3 zone has the potential to lock down opponents and make them look bad.  Remember that last season, it took Ohio over 10 minutes off the clock in the first half before they scored their first point.

Eastern's arena is nice.  I've been to a few games there.  It was built when Eastern was a good program.  Unfortunately, the program began declining with the building of the new arena and really hasn't recovered since.

They used to draw well during their glory days in the less than 5,000 capacity fieldhouse they used to play in.  I attended the game there during Trent's senior year when Boals got his knee blown out.  Full house.

I love that arena. It's a really nice place to watch a game.  In contrast to their football stadium, which feels like something the Soviets built  honoring the invention of concrete.
