I can understand us getting outrebounded by 15 because they are a lot bigger than us.

If it ain't going for me on the O-fensive side, then I absolutely make up my mind that the next rebound is mind.  And the next one. Until I've gotten several rebounds and I'm in a groove in which I'm contributing in some way.  Or, I put my mind to playing incredibly intense defense.  Something to contribute in a meaningful way.

Complaints about the way the calls are going--well, if the refs are calling certain things, calling the game a certain way, then an effort should be done to adjust to the situation.

DJ taking over got it for us.

One thing I've noticed this season is that the FT disparity is largely because we're fouling in the act in our first 6 fouls of a half more than the opposition is.  That showed up in the first half tonight, where Kent shot 16 FTs to our 1.  But we had 10 personal fouls in the half, which means only four fouls occurred in the bonus.  So, they had no more than 8 FTs after they got in the bonus.  Another two came on DJ's T.  That means at least six of their first half FTs were occurred because their player was fouled in the act before they got in the bonus. My theory for this is that we're playing more of a perimeter game, so we're not as aggressive in the paint, where you get fouled in the act.  (The second half tonight was more even; we shot nine, they shot 10 and each team had 9 fouls.)

Plus, two identical plays (one for either team) where a guard gets called for a charge, but ours counts and theirs doesn't? Not that I mind at all, but tonight's crew was pathetic.

Still, they missed a travel on Kent's last possession.

They weren't identical though.   Replays showed that the ball was clearly out of DJ's hand when he made contact on the charge while it clearly wasn't for Holt's.

Agreed about the first half.  They were allowed to mug our guards up top in the first half and we kept getting called on everything close.  Someone mentioned that we played a perimeter game and while that's normally true I didn't feel it was tonight.  We spent a good portion of the first half trying to get it inside. It was ridiculous that they only had 2 fouls with about five minutes to go.  There were about three times that Reggie should have been going to the line but no call.  Reghi kept talking about how physical Kent was, and they were, but we were the ones getting called for the fouls.

Their best player had a pretty open look from almost the Shaq circle down 1 with time expiring.

Wait, I thought Randall Holt took the last shot.

I was thinking the same thing when Reghi stated "They got the ball into the hands of the man you want to take the last shot" and all I could think was "No they didn't".  You get the ball to Evans in that instance if you can.  Holt is hitting under 30% on his two point shots this year and he didn't disappoint.

Here is the Kent screamer or their "Super Fan" http://faculty.jmc.kent.edu/glhanson/BBR/ShowVideo.asp?ID...

Interesting to see Christian on the story too as he was the coach at Kent when this was filmed.

I met her a few times when I would go visit my friend who was in the Kent band.  She was always a really nice person.  Personally I wish Kent fans shared her passion.

That game last night felt like it was being played in Millett until the final 5 minutes when the Kent fans woke up for the 8-0 run.

How can you be 6 ft 9 and have only one offensive rebound and score zero points?  Didn't these guys get schooled in Bobcat lore where a young Walter Luckett said he'd get 10 to 12 a game just hangin around?

There are going to be nights like that for everybody.  You're forgetting that he contributed in other ways, like 5 assists (the same as DJ), 4 steals (most on the team) and a blocked shot.  This team hasn't been getting the offensive rebounds, in part because when you're shooting 50%+ as a team you're not going to have many opportunities for offensive rebounds.

I am suprised how melancholy this board seems to be. i will take that win evertime.  This is a game we have lost in the past. "Life on the road", as we all know, can be a rough place in the MAC.

I agree with Pataskala. This team has been able to take what the other teams give us and turn that into wins.  Our offensive rebound opportunities, due to shooting percentage and due to the number of long rebounds off of missed 3s, are limited.

There were times when a seemingly frustrating game would have caused players (Ivo as an example) to give up on all aspects of the game.  This team seems to be adjusting and compensating both as individuals and as a team when someone not able to excel in certain aspects.  Last night they took Ivo out of scoring so he stepped up with defense and assists.  The took away DJ's assist opportunities so he took the ball to the hole himself.  Nick Kellogg is working his butt off on defense and even with a bad night you just cannot leave him alone on offense.  Offutt is constantly moving and defenses cannot afford to neglect him..his constant movement and hustle allows everyone else to have offensive opportunities.  Keely..well what else can you say about his game.  Then add our bench..these guys are giving great, great minutes during critical times of the game.

EVERY TEAM WE HAVE PLAYED SO FAR has tried to bring something new and different to the table to stop OUr game.  We have adjusted and responded each time.  Each team has been very physical and aggressive but we keep getting it done.  3 road wins in MAC play...great!

When we don't do things well (like the end of the game at our offensive end) we seem to learn from it for the next time...Right now I like this team...

As far as "Wow", what's the deal with a Blue and Gold color team having guys wearing NIU color shoes and another wearning neon green?  Hopefully an Ohio athletic department would nix any on an Ohio team that tried the same regrettable look?

Oh, c'mon, any team could look to those excuses for lack of rebounding.  I know that it's somewhat part of how we play and who we are.  But to see no improvement is frustrating.

Yes, I'm the guy who thinks that the rebounds should have been roughly even yesterday, that we shouldn't have given as many free looks at the rim to them and that we should have been up 8 in the last couple of minutes with no real doubt as to the outcome instead of, y'know that could easily have gone the other way.  (By the way our last possession was not glorius, showed questionable theory.)

anyone else think nick didn't want the ball in his hands the last 5 minutes of this game?

his confidence looks shot right now. with the zone, why not throw wilkins out there. isn't he a zone buster?

He missed those two open threes in a row and I think mentally he was done after that.   Walt looked like he wanted no part of the ball in the last ten minutes either.  There were several times where it looked like he could have easily taken his man off the dribble but he passed it up.  Luckily both stayed focused on the defensive end.

Christian noted in the postgame that on the last Ohio possession, D.J. passed the ball over to Walt and he passed it right back and Christian said he told Walt after the game that he needed to take the ball to the hoop there. Instead, he passed it back to D.J. in a double team and forced him to take a bad shot.

Senderoff also noted that most of Kent State's second-half turnovers were unforced, but the last one where Evans traveled was completely a credit to Walt's good defense.

I don't want to start any rumors but have you ever noticed you never see that ref and Riff Raff from Rocky Horror in the same room at the same time? hmmm....

I agree with the problem of free looks at the rim and that we should not have had to worry about the last possession of the game.  I am not completely blinded by my green colored glasses but I am of the belief that we are compensating for some of our glaring weaknesses with absolute raw talent and hard work in different parts of the game and I am very that we are winning close games instead of losing them.  It seems to me that the irony is that when we do things to somewhat protect the lead we lose our edge at both ends of the floor...not making excuses just saying that I agree it needs to be worked on for the grind of the next 10 MAC games.  No one is going to give us an easy way to go.
