Campus was shut down due to an armed robbery at the Station Street Apartments.  Not sure what the status of the EMU game is tonight.

Since tipoff is still more than six hours from now, I doubt there'll be a hold-up.

I saw the report.  I really really doubt a 10am solo robbery is going to affect a 7pm event unless there's some standoff situation of which I've heard nothing.  I plan on being there.

I'll bet the lab-class sessions weren't called off. Back in my day ('01-'05) those took place no matter hell, high water, 9/11, or national/religious holiday

Crap.  Now EMU is going to feel right at home.  They probably think they're still in metro Detroit.

Are the bars still open? ...at least they'd card the robber to get in

Seriously, hope it blows over without anything bad happening.

I'm sure I'll get grilled by the "better safe than sorry" crew...but this sounds really dumb to me.  A guy robbed someone, it wasn't like he was out on a rampage with no regard for human life.  Shutting down the entire campus, especially 3 hours after it actually happenned?  Over-reaction.

I would assume it's off until further notice. McDavis' latest update states that campus is closed and will reopen tomorrow morning.

This whole fiasco turned Athens traffic into a zoo. It took me more than a half hour to get from the Baker lot to my apartment on West Union.

Shabamon: driving from baker to west union? What is this world coming to...

But seriously, I too would like a court street update. If this game is on, it could be the rowdiest crowd in some time.

As for the seriousness of the situation...well the APD aren't even looking for the guy so take from that what you will.

Bars opened early today on account of campus closing. I guess Court street is getting busy. They are calling it fugitivefest. So if they students make it tonight they should be drunk.

The logic of this escapes me.

Is there more to this story, or did we just cancel a 7 pm basketball game because of a 9 am robbery?

Answered my own question.  Per Andy Katz twitter:

EMU considered playing the game Thursday but it was decided not to with games Saturday.  Will be pushed to later in the month.

My guess is Wednesday the 20th.  Both schools are off that date.

this is a bummer.

Both teams have a gap between Sat 2/16 and Wed 2/17, that leaves Wed 2/20 and Sat 2/23 open. One of those dates would be for the Bracket Buster but hopefully we can coordinate that scheduling to get both teams open on the same date. That would appear to be the easiest solution.

that would also put the EMU game between the KSU and Akron games, as it was originally scheduled.

Is this a genuine safety concern?

      A CYA lawyeresque response?

A statement on how fragile today's college students are?

A product of the helicopter parenting movement that has rendered a veal generation?

Bravo! Good work to you all.

The decision was likely made in hopes that the new date gets picked up by ESPNU . . .
