I've never seen a coach hang his head in disgust and disappointment more than this guy when his team falls behind. I don't get it. How bout trying to energize your team when it gets behind?

I still say not playing on Wednesday killed all of this team's momentum.

Can't win missing layups (I counted 5 from Offutt...not rebounding...DJ ice cold and a goose egg out of Baltic.  Where was Ivo today?

We've lost to every quality opponent we've played and even threw in a loss to Winthrop.

Strange team and coach to watch, but as always, it will once again come down to a couple of March nights in Cleveland. 

Can't blame him for having the 2nd best PG on the floor tonight and a senior with the first name of IVO that didn't show up at all.

Just like last year....it all comes down to March baby.

Not playing wednesday has no bearing on it. If anything it gives you one more day to hone your game plan and get healthy. It may hurt us more in the schedule down the line but the opportunity to rest a minute should be a positive going into a big game with a good team. Extra rest and time are welcome breaks in the bigger pic.

And I disagree with the idea we haven't played teams tough. Yes, we rolled over against Memphis, but I absolutely argue we didn't quit today and stayed tough against UMass. I don't remember the fake OU game well enough.

It was over when they scored roght out of the half. 43 . was the last chance we had to get back in it.

These Coach Christian threads are getting more than a little tiresome. Let's see; we were undefeated in conference play until today. We lost to the team with the longest winning streak in the country and someone complains because Jim Christian shruggs as if he is the only one in the country who doesn't? I am pretty close to Jim Christian's age and can't remember any coach who didn't do the same both in high school and college. With regard to non-qualities wins; Richmond and St Bonaventure are both above 500 and they are playing in one of the top conferences in the country (the Atlantic 10.) I seem recall the Richmond game wasn't close. Again, I don't have the time to research it, but I am sure it would be more than a little interesting to read some of the posts regarding Coach Groce at this point last year and years before that.

Just do a site search using SBH and Groce and you will have entertainment for a week. Not picking on ya Drew but if anyone wants to read about Groce the threads containing those search parameters paint a picture of what folks were say9ng about last years team following EMU and Toodleleydo.

What's your disagreement, exactly? Are you saying they gave up?

Don't like to comment too much....too easy to criticize from the bleachers/couch.  Also, I never believe that you should be critical of individual players.  It doesn't seem productive.  As for criticizing the coach....I guess he is fair game.  Yet, I used to roam the sideline at the high school level for a number of years....it is never easy down there.  
 
I don't know enough about Christian's personality to know if his lack of gametime "emotion" or "fire" is his DNA or if he is still trying to find the balance with this team.  While I still believe that this team is talented and at times (first 10 minutes) show shades of last year's run, they seem to me to play with an overall lack of togetherness and energy when "times get tough".  I can't quite put my finger on it....but am beginning to think that Groce's fire and intensity brought the energy and leadership from the sideline last year.  I'm not sure who is doing that this year.  It doesn't seem to exist too well on the court.

There are lots of things I could criticize....

1.  lack of offensive movement and "sharing the rock" after the first 10 minutes.  It sure looked good early...one of the better stretches I've seen this year.
2.  a collective lack of putting a body on a man in order to get rebounds....we seem to be "too short" to engage in a jumping contest for rebounds...only one way to fix that.  Our overall lack of height and explosive height at that can only be corrected with a team commitment to rebound.  On a side note....never seem to send too many to the offensive glass, but also don't do a good job getting back?
3.  a lack of communication (screens...even though some seemed to be moving;  a fastbreak where no one talked to get deepest man covered and it leads to a wide-open lay-up)
4.  a lack of consistent defensive effort esp. on the perimeter.  We have the skill and quickness out there....I'd like to see 35 seconds of it...esp. against a team who was awfully hot from outside.  It also would help to prevent the easy post passes.
5.  not getting much out of the post.  I'd like to see more touches by Reggie...get Marshall in foul trouble/Treadwell?  It wouldn't hurt the inside/out game.

I thought TJ played reall well....nice work on the offensive glass.  He might be best starting right now????


One final thought (although it pains me to say).  Akron played really well.  They shot the ball really well, had a lot of bounces go their way (although I believe you earn your luck) and fought out of an early hole. 

Let's get them in Athens and hopefully square off up in Cleveland to see who gets to go dancing!

Regarding JC, if you watched all the games that is his demeanor.  When he  was at KSU he carried himself the very same way.  I thought that He had a right to be upset with this team.   WE WERE OUTPLAYED!!  

They did not play very well.  Seniors were outplayed at both ends.  Ivo forgot to get off of the bus;  DJ played below expectation.  The bigs guarding him caused him problems. Keeley was just avg. and could not make the inside shots and Marshall and the' kron  freshman  just outplayed him.  Offett just not playing very well  and way out of control, plus not making anything.  We played defense for the first 16 min.  and then  went to sleep.  If I were the Coach,  I would be very dissatisfied with our perfomance!!

I did feel that the officials missed alot of travels and were protecting Akron inside.  Oh well we win the next 8 and we are where we want to be, 1/2 seeds in tournament.

It hurts to say but Akron is a better team than us. Right now and maybe for the rest of the season. DJ got outplayed and Ivo had 0 points and 0 rebounds. I dont even know how thats possible to play 22 min and have no offensive statistics. I dont see how anyone can complain about the officiating, unbelievably we had more FT attempts then them. Thats a rarirty for a visting team in the MAC. I think we will beat them at home, then it comes down to Cleveland. We will need some breaks.

Also on another topic, I'm somewhat concerned about the next game @BSU.
