Just finished watching the Temps-Dayton game on ESPNU. This had to be the worst finish to a game ever. Temps had cut a 10-pt lead to four with a minute to go, then got a FG to make it a 2-pt game with about 45 seconds left. Dayton came up court, got in a trap and their player was expecting a foul but traveled instead with 20 seconds left. Temps worked in the forecourt and hit a 3 with 7 seconds left to make take a one point lead. This is where it really got weird. Temps pressed on the inbounds and Dayton lost the ball out of bounds with 2.6 seconds left. Dayton fouled with 1.3 left, but the Temps player missed them both and Dayton called its last time out on the rebound. They set up a play for a long inbounds pass, but before they got it in, a Temps player was called for a foul near the Dayton FT line. The Dayton player missed both FTs, and they fouled on the rebound with 1 second left. The Temps player then missed the first FT, and missed the second intentionally. But it didn't hit the rim, only the glass, so Dayton got the ball out of bounds still with a chance to win the game. They tried the same play as before, but the inbound heave was fumbled and time ran out. Temps won 72-71. So in the last 2.6 seconds the two teams had a TO, three fouls and six missed FTs, including a botched intentional miss. This was the antithesis of the IU-Illinois game from the other night.
