Ridiculous.  To accent just how ridiculous, check out the stats of two of the finalists mentioned in this article:

What do you think's going to happen if Akron wins the regular season title?  D.J. not going to get POTY either even though he's easily the best player in the league this year.  They'll give it to the second best player on Akron.

I thought he'd get into the top 10 and challenge for the last five. Very unfortunate.

The OU news release says Cooper is a finalist but the Cousy Award website does not have him listed as one of the final 12.    Which is it??

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University point guard D.J. Cooper is featured on the Friday (Feb. 8) edition of ESPNU's UNite program. The show will air at midnight, 6 a.m., 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., with Cooper's segment appearing at the :45 mark of each broadcast (12:45 a.m., 6:45 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 8:45 a.m., 9:45 a.m.).

In the interview, Cooper talks about the 2012-13 Ohio men's basketball season, his high school career in Chicago and more.

Cooper is in the midst of a stellar senior campaign for the Bobcats. The 2013 Cousy Award Finalist is fourth in the country with 7.9 assists per game and leads Ohio in points (14.1), assists and steals (2.1). He has led Ohio in assists in 20 of 22 games and broke the single-game school record with 17 assists against Marshall on Jan. 5.
