Send Fear a stress ball to squeeze and a vomit bag for the inevitable report of The Whiz starting.

I really hope Wiz can be serviceable for us this season. Anything close to Ogbonda would be gold.

At the Block Party event last night, Shereef Mitchell had some sort of splint/brace on his right forearm. I'll be curious to hear if he plays in the scrimmage on Saturday. Hopefully it's nothing.

Not ideal this close, but could be just inflammation. I once caught an elbow to the forearm playing and it swelled up (no fracture); and just needed the compression/some rest.

Shereef has the splint on in a photo on IG where the guys are working at the Athens food bank.

Meh.

They introduced the teams (men/women), Boals spoke for a few minutes, then it was basically a student 3-point contest. I left after a couple rounds of the 3-point thing. The men and women were only out there rebounding for the student shooters.

I swear we've had somebody in a sling or a cast in October /November for five straight years.

Immediate, quick thoughts. Mitchell brought a lot of defensive pressure and hit several shots. I thought Clayton looked more aggressive around the rim/paint. AJ Brown/Miles/Hunter all looked solid. G-Wiz looked improved to me. He had some boards, a couple of blocks, and scored a few times. Elmore James looks like the guy I'd expect to take a big leap. He finished really well at the rim, hit some mid-range shots, and got downhill to the rim a lot. Ike got a lot of decent looks but didn't hit many. Defensively, very active across the board. Lots of deflections, active hands, and ball pressure from the guards.

I agree on most of these insights. Our guard play will be special. Ike Cornish was a bit disappointing. IJ remains a project. Freshman from W Va. hit everything in warmups but couldn't work free for a single shot in the "game." Needs work in weight room.

I personally think the RS year for IJ hurt his development a lot. But overall, defense wins championships and having multiple guards who can be a defensive threat and offensive threat are super valuable to have.

Was Ike disappointing for the lack of shots made or anything else? I do like the sound of him being active on defensive side with his length.

because no one benefits from a years growth and development.

From what I have seen so far, nothing has told me he has advanced a level above his freshman year - maybe that will change with the exhibition against Otterbein this week which I'm excited for. But, have seen improvement in his hands and we have yet to see if he reduces the amount of fouls. Just very uneasy going into the year with our big position with a big question mark. Clayton I think will be likely starter with Gabe and IJ picking up minutes while either GWiz / Clayton sit.

Overall, I have a suspicion Boals is planning a 4 guard lineup to use for some games this year, but I could be completely wrong.

My numbers are 25, 13, 29, 33, 64, 3.

But in all seriousness the fact we did not pursue a forward very much in the portal makes me think Boals either has immense confidence in GWiz / Clayton / Ezuma making big leaps this year (which is my main assumption) or he could not find anyone in lieu of bigger NIL offers.

Clayton has shown huge improvement in the paint which I hope will be true this season and he makes better shot selection from the outside. I really hope NVP's claim to me on him being a future MAC POTY contender comes true.

Where is Jeff McKinney or even Fake Jeff to warn us about a possible upset in the exhibition game if we don't bring our A game?

The best part of the whole scrimmage, for me, was when G-Wiz was at the free throw line. Hunter walked up behind him at the top of the arc and, in a really high voice, said "Gaaaaaaaaabriel." And Wiz bricked the free throw.

As another person said above, Ben Nicol (I think) made 0 FG's, but his free throw stroke was a thing of beauty. Unless I missed it, I didn't see any of his free throws touch anything but net.
