Just wanted to start a fun offseason debate - What is the best dunk in Convo history? I could see Gary Trent or Jerome Tillman taking credit for some - but the ones I remember seeing in person are of BVP's dagger dunk against Belmont, Hadaway's alley oop against BG during WT/LT (shades of DeVaughn Washington and Jon Sanderson), and Dwight's posterjob of former Bobcat Sam Towns.

The best dunk I've seen in the Convo was not performed by an Ohio player. Ric, I'm sorry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PISGoL7UZTk

Best dunks I've seen in the Convo were by Gary Trent.

Best dunks by an OHIO player would be Don Hilt in Grover Center.

In both cases, I can't single out any one dunk. They each had many that were memorable.

Probably the best dunk I ever saw in person in a game OHIO was playing in would have been on OHIO game at BG when Nate the Great was playing for the Falcons.

Maurice N'dour at home against Valpo. I know one user has the pic as their profile pic but he rose up way above the rim and threw the hammer down.

Victor Alexander breakaway dunk against EMU (I think) in 1983. There was a poster featuring the dunk displayed throughout Athens for several years.

Lots of excellent dunkers and dunks over the last 40+ years that I've been watching games in the Convo. I can't pick the best dunk I remember from an Ohio player, but I remember the most exciting one for me.

Maurice N'Dour caught a full court pass from Tony Campbell near the foul line and slammed it home right at the buzzer to beat Buffalo. The play started with just 3 seconds or so.

If the conversation involves dunks at the Convocation Center then the sentence better include Ball State's Chandler Thompson.

Came here to post this.

Not exactly Vince Carter, but a TD pass + game winning dunk? Can't beat it.

Ndour had a lot of gems.

Believe that's correct. That was one exciting dunk. I had remembered the play and that N'dour had gotten the wining basket with a close in shot but had forgotten that it was a dunk until I looked at the video that was posted. Upon review, I'd have to agree that that is one of the top dunks ever in the Convo.

Recency bias may be at play, but Jason Preston's one arm put back dunk his Sophomore year was a jaw dropper. I believe it was right before the pandemic.

I was there for that one, that Lamar player could fly.

As for OU players, Mo N'Dour had some good ones (Buffalo winner, one vs UMASS I think?). Devaughn Washington had some good ones, one late vs Fiami at home. An underrated one, mainly because it was an exhibition, but Jaaron Simmons had an exhibition game dunk (vs Rio maybe?) that was nuts. Keep in mind he was a roughly 6' PG. Someone missed a 3 and Jaaron came in from the arc and 2-hand tip dunked the missed 3. It was one of those "woah" dunks, for me.

Dante Fenoral (sp?) and Curtis Simmons had some pretty awesome dunks back in the day.

Was the shattered backboard in the home game against WVU the result of a dunk?

Yes. Jerome Tillman.

Expanding the topic to all-time best dunk (home or away) by a Bobcat, I'd vote for freshman Gary Trent vs. OSU (pass off the backboard by Gus Johnson) or sophomore Gary Trent at Anderson Arena, where he escaped a double team beneath the basket to somehow complete a reverse slam that about brought the roof down. He got a standing ovation from the BG fans.

Yes, that dunk vs BGSU was something else, a display of his raw power.

That was Sanjay Adell from the Hunter era. The backboard remained intact but the rim was destroyed causing a 30 minute delay while they brought in a replacement.

So, it was a dunk by Sanjay that caused the problem? I thought that I remembered that some small segments of glass/plastic from the backboard had to be swept up from the floor. I may be wrong about that, but yes now that you mention it, I do remember that most the backboard remained intact.

So...to confirm that it was Sanjay Adell rather than Jerome Tillman, I Googled "Sanjay Adell broken rim" -- and, yikes, the news story that came up...

Yes that was Sanjay Adell in the 98-99 season and that would be my vote.
