NASSAU, The Bahamas – Seven mid-major Division I men's basketball teams are scheduled to play in the 2023 Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship, Nov. 24-26, at the Baha Mar Resort.

The partial field currently includes Brown (14-13, 7-7 Ivy League in 2022-23), Delaware (17-16, 8-10 Colonial Athletic Association), George Washington (16-16, 10-8 Atlantic 10), UIC (12-20, 4-16 Missouri Valley), Kansas City (11-21, 7-11 Summit League), Middle Tennessee (19-14, 11-9 Conference USA) and Ohio (19-14, 10-8 Mid-American).

Five teams that competed in the 2022 event went on to post at least 20 victories this past season, highlighted by Vermont qualifying for the NCAA Tournament; North Texas winning the postseason NIT; and San Jose State appearing in the CBI.

The complete eight-team field for the 2023 event, along with tournament schedule, ticket information and streaming details will be announced later but fans can begin to make their reservation plans now!

UIC, Brown, and KC really hurt the field. MTSU likely becomes the favorite (and is the best team returning) next season in CUSA with UAB, FAU, and FAU heading to AAC.

GW is usually a top half A10 team, we always talk about getting games against these types of opponents. It also landed a Princeton transfer, had a VT transfer visit, and seems to be in on a lot of other players in the portal after doing a quick Twitter search. Could be better than 16-16 next season. .

Delaware being in it just sucks from the standpoint we already play them. Hopefully the 8th and final team is 20 win team if it doesn’t end up being Cal State Fullerton. I don’t love the field, but I also don’t hate it outside of the bottom 3.

I’ll gladly take this over home games against the likes of a UC Clermont or Alabama State. Just take care of business and we can end up stacking some quality wins in a tournament that is winnable.

You complained about not getting into a holiday tournament in 22-23. Then, once we get a holiday tournament for the next season, you're complaining about who Ohio is going to end up playing in it.

Hey now it says there is still one spot left out of the eight team field. Alabama State could still make it in! ;)

In the just completed NCAA men’s D1 tournament in one game an announcer referred to Kansas State several times as “Kansas City,” so maybe that’s a new name. Hey, Ohio State U once had “Ohio” on their jerseys and called themselves “Ohio” so why can’t Kansas State be referred to as Kansas City.

UMKC rebranded to Kansas City? Guess so but the only place I see it in the University pages is on the Athletic site. https://kcroos.com/calendar They play in one of the legendary arenas in College Basketball. Municipal Arena which is the Art Deco-inspired site of the 1957 NCAA Championship where Wilt Chamberlain's Jayhawk squad lost to new North Carolina Coach Dean Smith's boys.

Assuming no one enters the portal from KC, it returns all of its top players next season. I didn’t realize its coach was Marvin Menzies. He took New Mexico State to 5 NCAA Tourneys in 6 seasons between 09-15. Just didn’t translate at UNLV after and now it appears he’s landed at KC.

I just watched a documentary on amazon called "Secrets of the Mega Resort" about Baha Mar. Pretty wild.

It's amazing how much goes into running a property of this size and scale. Apparently, it's the worlds largest luxury resort. Cost $4B to build. Has a daily staff of 4,000 people. 40 restaurants. 9 pools. Largest casino in the Caribbean. Largest water park. Nichlaus designed golf course.

If nothing else, it should be pretty fun experience for the team.

Maybe the largest casino in the Caribbean, but avoid the blackjack tables unless you don't mind a larger than normal house edge. Hopefully Russ Eisenstein gets word of this before heading down to the casino in between games.

And remember, always double aces and eights.

And your gains are incremental and your losses are exponential when they finally happen. Seriously, I was probably literally about 7 or 8 years old when I thought of doing this but I also realized the flaw shortly there after. If your stake you have with you is $1000 the odds are fairly realistic that you'll need more than $1000 to cover a losing streak. If your stake is $1000000 you can hold out 10 more consecutive losses than with a $1000 but when that happens you're out a million dollars. This will work for small gains and if your stake is big it will keep working for a long time...until it doesn't.

Not a fan of progressive betting, personally. More important, IMO, is to follow basic strategy.

Typically, blackjack has the lowest house edge (0.5% to 2%) of all table games, which are typically lower than slots. Blackjack table variations (dealer hits on soft 17, double down after a split allowed, single deck v. 6-deck shoe, etc..) will alter the house edge.

Always avoid tables that pay 6:5 on blackjacks v. the standard 3:2 payout. Unfortunately, more and more casinos, including the one at Baha Mar, are going to 6:5. While sticking to basic strategy can get the house edge to 0.5%, 6:5 payouts can lower that to around 2%.

Sadly, casinos are changing in a way that does not benefit blackjack players.

This is surprising? They ain't in business to lose money. They are like modern insurance companies who aren't just content with making money on their insured in the aggregate, but want to have a very high probability of making money on every individual insured. That's not the way insurance was originally suppose to work, but it's today's reality. I suspect casinos will follow this model more and more.

We had out first Worker's Compensation claim in 2022.

One of our employees broke her hip in our parking lot.
Not really sure how it happened.
It was a dry, sunny day and the pavement wasn't an issue.

We found out that, under N.J. Law, if a Worker's Compensation claim
exceeds your premium, for that year, the company can drop you.

For a small company like mine, that means they can drop you for
pretty much any claim.
They did.

Now we have to scramble to get new coverage.

Generally, the differential diagnosis here is fairly logical. The thing to remember is that a bone needs a reason to break. Usually, that reason is that a substantial force has been applied to the bone. If there is no evidence of such a force, we must look for some other reason. To do this, you must first answer two questions: 1) did the fracture occur through normal or abnormal bone; 2) is there normal or decreased amount of bone present?

Spontaneous Fracture perhaps? Unusual torque getting out of a car/SUV? Osteoporosis evidence?

MTSU had a very athletic team last season. Not sure what they have back.

My employee isn't sure what happened.

All she remembers is that she fell down walking from her car to
our building entrance.

She said she limped over to our building entrance, sat down and we called
an ambulance.

They did a hip replacement that night.

No underlying conditions we know about, including Osteoporosis.
