Each school gets about $4million a year. That $45 million a year is for the whole league.
*MAYBE* in the future some of these deals will come with a stipulation that a % goes to the athletes... but this always leads into my favorite topic.
Only 5 of 11 Big East schools turn a profit on mens basketball. 0 Big East athletic departments turn a profit.
Most athletic programs are not profitable. Each year the NCAA issues an annual report on the finances of intercollegiate athletics. The report found only 25 Division I programs had revenues exceeding expenses. (18 also had D1 football)
No D2/D3/NAIA turned a profit. There are 1,102 Division I, II and III schools. 25 athletic departments made money.
99.98% of athletic departments incur debt to run their athletic departments each year.
Bigger programs, bigger bills. Profitable sports are used to fund entire athletic departments, most times pretty unsuccessfully.
