Lol. Nothing is more profitable than the outrage of middle-aged white guy.

This whole situation seems like the textbook definition of "making a mountain out of a mole hill" to me. I'm sick of hearing about it and seeing headlines about it.
Had it happened in some random rural high school gym, perhaps but not when it plays out in front of the largest crowd to ever see a national championship game.
Caitlin Clark, herself, said "I don't think Angel should be criticized at all."

She has no problem with the trash talking, and it happened TO HER. Why can't you let it go?
Did you expect her to say anything else? Why would she pour gas on the fire by criticizing her? When behavior (taunting) becomes so common place that it is no longer remarkable, it becomes acceptable. I for one don't find taunting an opponent acceptable. If a kid on any team I have. coached or coach did/does that, they are on the bench immediately. It's called class and decorum as well as the title of this thread - sportsmanship.

There’s a big difference between celebrating and taunting/harassing. I think everyone on here knows the difference.
Just out of curiosity, I went back and checked the game thread for the final home game vs BGSU. Not one negative comment was made regarding Dwight "rocking the baby" towards the BG bench all the way up the floor after scoring on Sam Towns. Is that not taunting? OCF, you were there, according to your posts on the thread. Why wasn't Dwight called out for his antics? How many times this past year did we see OUR guys hit a 3 in front of the opponent bench and turn and stare at the bench after the make? I remember several. That's taunting, also, right?

For the record, I loved it. Towns gave it to our guys, Dwight gave it right back. It wasn't whistled on the floor, and ZERO of our fans complained about it on here.
Its ok when we do it mentality. Like when Hipsher taunted the O-Zone after they rode him like Festus Hagan's Mule all game. That was fine, him giving it back was not fine.

I wonder, since she's won a National Championship, and is doing very well with instagram and endorsements, if she'll be coming back to LSU or just jump to
the WNBA ?

She already announced that, because of Jill Biden's remarks ,LSU won't be going
to the White House.

So if she is going pro, what better time then now ?

I don't believe she (nor Clark) is eligible. But if she's already a millionaire through NIL, it's a tougher decision, isn't it?

I looked it up.
Have to be 22 years old during the year the draft takes place.

Neither is.

A lot different then the NBA.

Kinda wonder if she would sue for entry. It's been done (Spencer Haywood, Marcus Dupree, Maurice Clarett, etc..) She'd be hard-pressed to prove hardship, lol.

I'd be surprised though if least it isn't or won't be discussed.

The WNBA Finals viewership: 412,000
Women's NCAA Finals viewership: 9.9 million

WNBA rookie salary: around $70,000 for a first round pick

I don't think she has much interest in jumping to WNBA when her source of income is based on eyes on her through social media. Unless she gets arrested for pot in Russia, those eyes will lessen the day she leaves college basketball and goes pro.

If I'm reading the article that Mr. Coleman posted correctly, a little less
then half of her instagram followers came after LSU won the championship.

If she returns to LSU next season "those eyes will lessen" ,just based on
the lack of exposure woman's basketball gets during the regular season.

There are also no guarantees on what happens to LSU next post season.

I think she's at her peak, as far as "eyes" and endorsements from playing
in college.

How many of the endorsements she keeps will be contingent on sales.

If the WNBA thinks she's enough of a "commodity" ,to elevate their league, I'm sure they will make sure she's able to get in the league.

They'll also find a way to make financially beneficial.

With her talent and attitude , she'll attract an audience.
That's what the WNBA needs.
" Seats in the seats" and "eyes on the court".

When was the last time you went to a Bobcats game in the Convo? I don't think I have seen a single game in the last few years that didn't involve celebrations (by BOTH teams) on the floor after made 3's, dunks, etc... The Kent game at home this year, after Sin Carry hit a big three late, he ran the length of the court to get a close-up in the camera for tv. Our game at Michigan, Hunter Dickinson did a little dance at mid-court after hitting a three to close out the half. None of that stuff gets whistled. Whether you like it or not, it has become part of the game. Good luck putting all of that back in the imaginary box.

And I really hope they stay off your lawn.
Let's see, I've been a season ticket holder since the 90s - went to the NCAA game with Indiana in 1994, preseason NIT finals in 1994, NCAA sweet 16 in St. Louis against North Carolina, MAC championship in Battelle, Toledo, and Cleveland so I l guess I've seen a few games since we came here in 1979.

There is a big difference between celebrating and taunting. The lawn reference has gotten quite old and stale. Is that all you got?

I've had this discussion before, but I think for women - college is generally the peak. As far as fans and game interest go. Now with the NIL, its probably more profitable to be a college town hero than a WNBA "star".

I follow a young lady from Youngstown State on the gram (shes a looker) and she reposted a graphic from the horizon league that said she was the highest earner in the entire league (men and women) at $75K. And that must just be whats going through their collective. She averages 7 points. For a womens basketball team. In Youngstown. Making more than your average WNBA player.

Not really apples to apples. You need to compare with wnba salary combined with endorsement money.

You're using rookie base salary like it's the end all be all limit to what she'd make as a star in the league

Yes, I was there, but I'll have admit that I did not see Dwight's antics. I must have been watching another part of the court. I think from what's been said it occurred on the opposite side of the court from where I sit. What I'd like to see is having these taunts whistled as unsportsmanlike conduct and enforced as a technical foul. That would put an end to them pretty quickly. Like in football where you can celebrate with your teammates after a good play, but if you taunt an opponent you're likely to get a flag. The lines seem more clearly drawn in college football than basketball between what is celebrating and what is taunting. I think basketball needs to clean things up a bit.

Alan, I see you conveniently didn't answer questions about the taunting that has occurred in our games this year, sometimes by our players. If you're not seeing it, you're simply not paying attention when you're in the Convo.

Be consistent, no more selective outrage. If you have a problem with what Angel Reese did, you should have a problem with Dwight's taunting in the BG game. You should have a problem with bench stares and hand gestures towards opponent benches. It's all taunting, it's all unnecessary, and it has all become a part of the game.

Outrage? No one said anything about outrage. I said I don't like it which is a far cry from outrage. I did not see the incident with Wilson that you mentioned so I can't comment. I'm glad though that we agree that it's unnecessary.

Seems like apples and oranges again.

Running by rocking the baby or the stupid stuff players do after a 3 or a dunk seems to be just that, stupid stuff players do going back to the other end maybe deserving a tech or warning if it is getting over the top. What Ms Reese did was seeking out and harassing a player. I don't really care anymore as it is just all so much stupidity that detracts from their talent and accomplishments. Kind of agree with Swank that coaches should be teaching their players better manners and sportsmanship but in this day and age where "Me" is more important than anything else you can't say much about their behavior as a Coach. Mommy and Daddy will just take them somewhere where their actions will be lauded.
