I was gonna stay out of today's edition of Wiz debate but there is just no chance that this is true. He has not shown he does a single thing good. Can't shoot or even handle the basketball in any way. Awful rebounder. Potent fouler, with specialization in crippling off-ball fouls losing our possession. I will relent that he isn't an awful defender but I would not call him above average.

It is becoming pretty obvious that Wiz will at a minimum fill the same role he had last year, and I am beginning to fear it may be expanded. I don't doubt he will work his butt off to improve his deficiencies but with terrible footwork and hands at the core of his struggles, I have a hard time envisioning those things just going away.

I'll say again, I believe Wiz 2.0 will be a significant upgrade from Wiz 1.2 that we saw this past season. In Boals we Trust!

I assume the Texas A&M visitor was Brown since Boals did offer him in 2019, so it wasn't a cold call, but Smith is a possibility. I can't see that he played at all this past season.

I didn’t realize Boals offered Brown. I was going off Brown and Lamar following each other on IG. Didn’t know Smith was in the portal, either.

Will Shaver committed today to UAB. After decommitting from Belmont.

Maybe he wanted to stay south but there's a missed opportunity at a skilled big who was willing to drop to mid.

I’m actually surprised we haven’t seen the school (or individual athletes) and Homage partner for NIL deals tbh. Its Founder, Ryan Vessler, is an OU grad. For example, create those NBA Jam shirts with Jaylin/Miles/AJB/EJ4.

Both of these guys look like semi-projects to me.

Additional insight from Pickerington event:

IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes.
Also shows since we had no media - no one had a clue on IJ. Which is ridiculous to be a D1 program with no coverage.
And of course Boals is going to defend The Whiz to the end because he looks like an idiot for not only recruiting, but playing him so much.

Stunning.

Also if DW3 could only play 24 min (see MAC Toledo semifinal game) a game like was asserted on here- how do you redshirt another big? Even if IJ is a project, you left yourself short on depth at this position badly with The Whiz who was not ready for division-one basketball.
I think the larger overarching issue is the staff’s inability to identify and develop bigs outside of Dwight since taking over. Something has to change; fishing year-to-year for bigs in the portal is not sustainable.

As it relates to IJ/Gabe, both are Hargrave/Lee Martin connections. Might want to rethink that pipeline moving forward if the two of them don’t progress.

FJC31….you are always the voice of reason. I could not agree more. It shouldn’t be this hard to find a solid player at this position.
Kent and Buffalo have always utilized JUCO’s like Indian Hills to find size/length. I’m surprised we don’t just mimic that. Or, hire a staffer from the JUCO ranks who knows where to look.

Ah. One would think Brown is the favorite here based on that but who knows. Wonder who the third big that visited was.

Birmingham? If he would prefer to spend the next several years in a city with HIGH crime and weather that's like a sauna in the deepest pit of hell...he will love B'ham. Seems like the crime and horrible weather in Nashville would have been to his liking? He should try Memphis next.

Seems like a good enough reason to play there. Also, UAB is a pretty good program.

Zach Loveday from Gallipolis? A 7-footer who left Baylor. Has there been any talk about him in this thread.

Also, it was reported a few weeks ago that the Elijah Hutchins-Everett kid was headed to Seton Hall but the on3 thing that rates portal transfers now doesn't have him as decided. Not sure what to think.

IJ was not hurt last year. He was redshirted for class management purposes. When I asked about his offensive skills, Boals replied, "Work in progress." Honestly, he was far more positive on Wiz -- said he has the skills but simply needs to slow down. Predicts he'll make significant progress over the summer.
I’m not going to say Wiz will ever be great but he’s certainly a D1 player and would have success in a smaller conference. At Ohio, he’ll be a rotational player who will hopefully become less of a detriment on the floor this year.
Respect the take...that's what this board is all about. And damn...I hope I am wrong about this, but up to this point, The Whiz isn't a D1 player and he'd have trouble finding success in the MEAC. Nobody can go into next season feeling good about the prospects of The Whiz being in the rotation.
Hahaha. You continually trash Wiznitzer, yet the guy you have worshipped, our head coach, has produced zilch to bring in a better big man. Anything more need be said? It's mid-May and the clock continues to tick.

And nobody can feel good about going into next season with no one recruited from the portal. Thus, if Wiz is on the floor next winter it's for a reason. Either he stepped up or Boals failed. Or both.

Jerry....good to see ya chime in on the portal thread. Just curious...are you still taking those "I love Saul" crazy pills? Are you still sending him Christmas cards?

For the record, I've only worshipped four people in my life: Dad, Tony Dorsett, Gary Trent and Scarlett Johansson. For a guy that you think I "worship", I sure do rip Boals a ton when it comes to in-game coaching decisions and for swings and misses on the recruiting trail. Everyone on this board knows I criticize Boals. Just like I criticized Larry, O'Shea, Groce, Christian and your boy Saul.

You are correct about one thing. If The Whiz is in the rotation next winter, Boals has failed big-time with recruiting this position. And I mean big-time. It's actually the smartest thing you've ever said on Bobcat Attack.

Enjoy your annual summer vacation with the Phillips family (I hear Aberdeen, SD is really nice between June 16-18). Go Northern State! I see the Wolves are killing it in the portal!
