They were down double-digits most of the game, even into the final 3-4 minutes, and scrambled to beat #1 Indiana 74-72 on a buzzer beater.  The gotta love him.

I just told my friend when Illinois down 5 that thayvwould pass up a sure 2 for an ill-advised 3. Low and behold thry didcand itcwas good. 2 point game. With .9 seconds to go i said they "Groce does not have a play for this except a 3 point shot. I was wrong.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I rarely recall an out of bounds play working in the Groce era at the Convo, let alone a gimmee.

Congratulations Coach on a signature win.

In classic Groce fashion, he set this win up nicely after losing by 14 at home to a below average Northwestern team.

Not only did the out-of-bounds play rarely work, I always believed that when the opponents had the ball on their end of the floor and things became tough, the opponent would deliberately throw the ball out of bounds. Chances are OUr inbounds play would blow up and the opponent had a pretty good chance of getting an excellent shot.

That said, it worked to perfection last night. Good for Coach Groce and the Illini!

I generally hate sunday night hoops but upon arriving home from a 3rd -6th grade league at Muncie Central I got to watch the end of the Illini game up at the Barn. Minny beat at home on the heels of Ill beating IU. Maybe Groce will have them playing their best ball in March.

Discussion with Groce after IU win, and a discussion of inbounds plays.

Great Find.

Groce is pretty realistic about the public in there. On one hand if the shot goes he is a genius and if not he is a goat. Same play different result. I like that he just stays true to what he believes works even though he fully realized he does not have the horses to play the way he wants just yet.

Winnable games down the stretch. See what he does.

My friends in Illinois gonna be buying at least 7 steak dinners. I should be set for meals most of the summer when I am up there. I know my kid will want to pass on Gibsons and Mortons for the 72 oz porterhouse at AL's

Since I read the espn story with the original pic I did not figure out what all the WOW was about. Just thought about all the Valentines days I have had with my 4 boys trying to make them special as a single dad and was happy Groce is able to enjoy some fantastic moments with his boys.

NOt till I ran across the DEadspin article did I understand the perverted  take and somewhat Ironic Penn State link.  Without that I would have never made the connection.

I am more impressed that the Illini board is enthralled and discussing JG taking Ali on a recruting trip on V day.  That is pretty smooth IMHO> fly on a private jet, get away from the kids, catch some hoops together and not have to drive . Nice job.

Hard to believe throughout the whole process, nobody ever saw it that way.  Really really dumb.
