Altough DJ fouled out and his understudy made the key go ahead basket in crunch time, I'm giving ironic credit for this victory to the Kent State radio announcers.  My wife and I were in Newark and couldn't get back for the game.  (We had made travel plans prior to the change of game time.  We would have been in the Convo if the tip had been at the regularly scheduled 7 p.m. time).  So, we leave the Cherry Valley Lodge and head to Rooster's in Newark (or N'ark as the natives say it) at 11:00.  I wanted to listen to the begining of the game on the radio as we took the five minute drive to the sportsbar.    The only radio station I could find with the game was 640 WHLO in Akron.  The announcers were generally dissing Ohio for jacking up ill considered threes (probably legit), but then went further and the PBP guy said to his sidekick in a very dismissive tone, "Do you really think DJ is the best guard to ever play in this league?"  Then, he answered his own question and said something like: "I think that's very questionable."  Again, he said it in a tone of voice like "You've got to be kidding me . . . this guy's really overhyped."   Well, I think DJ's end-of-the-half heroics were a direct answer to this slob.  DJ obviously sensed the vibes from this douche bag on press row and gave him an answer.  Moral of this story: DON'T DIS DJ OR YOU'LL LIVE TO REGRET IT!

Edit:  At the sportsbar we did a strange thing.  We watched on the monitor right in front of our booth, but I used my iPhone to get Russ & Co. on the net feed.  It was interesting because Russ was behind by about 20 seconds.  That's not as bad in my opinion as having the audio lead the video.  It was kind of interesting seeing things in real time and then hearing Russ' descriptions after the fact.

First of all, I don't think I've ever heard anyone make that claim.  He's definitely one of the best but there have a been a lot of really, really good guards to play in the MAC.   I'm struggling to think of a better PG although I'm sure there are some at least as good if not better.

Agreed on the radio.  I can listen if Russ is behind but not ahead.  What I find amazing is how his descriptions (at least the way my brain processes them) match the actual plays.

There's a commercial for a local Ford dealer where the announcer says its located "where Newrick meets Heath."  Haven't heard anybody else call it "Newrick"; "Nerk" is the norm.

It really doesn't matter what the other teams' announcers think.  DJ's range of stats and the success this team has had speak for themselves.

this is often the case for me whether I am in the arena or at home. I also agree with Van's description of Russ' calls. I like the delay and use it to maybe remember something I may not have noticed....replaying it in my head or going back on the dvr is kind of fun.

Did his big 3 at the end of the first half make the Sportscenter Top 10?

Nope

I was unhappy as there was very little on the Top 10 that was even close to that ending. A kansas 360 dunk mid game was number one.

#10 I think, or maybe 9, was a similar looking buzzer beater, so at that point I knew nothing from our game was coming.

Stevie's shot was more likely to make if, no--for the emotional impact?!

And, DJ's over the head assist before his 3ball.

The importance of which 3ball should not be overlooked by the way.

I heard that DJ has been suffering from a stomach virus for a week now.
This would explain why his stats have suffered over at least the past few games.
I expect, once healthy, he will return to his old self.
I am looking for a 10+ assist day come Wed.

Sick DJ Cooper, puking on the sideline, was good enough for a 13 point-7 assist-4 steals-4 rebounds line.  I think that says it all.
