Altough DJ fouled out and his understudy made the key go ahead basket in crunch time, I'm giving ironic credit for this victory to the Kent State radio announcers. My wife and I were in Newark and couldn't get back for the game. (We had made travel plans prior to the change of game time. We would have been in the Convo if the tip had been at the regularly scheduled 7 p.m. time). So, we leave the Cherry Valley Lodge and head to Rooster's in Newark (or N'ark as the natives say it) at 11:00. I wanted to listen to the begining of the game on the radio as we took the five minute drive to the sportsbar. The only radio station I could find with the game was 640 WHLO in Akron. The announcers were generally dissing Ohio for jacking up ill considered threes (probably legit), but then went further and the PBP guy said to his sidekick in a very dismissive tone, "Do you really think DJ is the best guard to ever play in this league?" Then, he answered his own question and said something like: "I think that's very questionable." Again, he said it in a tone of voice like "You've got to be kidding me . . . this guy's really overhyped." Well, I think DJ's end-of-the-half heroics were a direct answer to this slob. DJ obviously sensed the vibes from this douche bag on press row and gave him an answer.
Moral of this story: DON'T DIS DJ OR YOU'LL LIVE TO REGRET IT!
Edit: At the sportsbar we did a strange thing. We watched on the monitor right in front of our booth, but I used my iPhone to get Russ & Co. on the net feed. It was interesting because Russ was behind by about 20 seconds. That's not as bad in my opinion as having the audio lead the video. It was kind of interesting seeing things in real time and then hearing Russ' descriptions after the fact.
